Okay, it's a week later and no one had a story for the What If Challenge.  Just tell me now if it isn't going to fly, because I don't want to waste time on something that's doomed to fail.  I'm serious, feedback please.
I realize this is a time for a lot of re-focusing on things as the new year begins.  LJ has been slower than molasses as far as I can tell, so maybe we just give this original prompt another week.

I'm two days late with this because I had to rewrite it. When I read [livejournal.com profile] mrua7's story I realised I had written pretty much the same story. Anyway, here is my new version.


The two figures ran in silence through the snow-laden landscape; both intent on capturing their quarry before he got too far. After almost twenty-five minutes they came to a stop, desperately trying to draw breath into their burning lungs. Both were finding the ice difficult to run on and were tiring much more quickly than they would, had it not been the dead of winter.
