“Oh, Mr. So-lo. Na-po-leon,” called a voice in a sultry sing-song.

At the other end of the corridor, Napoleon swung around, a pleased smile lighting his face. “Janine.”

The curvaceous blonde, hips swaying behind her cart, sashayed toward him. “I thought you might like your mail before you head upstairs.”

“Thank you,” he said, watching appreciatively as she bent over the cart. “That’s very, ah, big-hearted of you.”

She straightened, shoulders pulled back to display her ample endowments. “If I’m known for anything,” she said with a provocative smile, “it’s the size of my…heart.”

Hope. It was a word that was preeminent in the vocabulary of an UNCLE field agent.

They would hope the intelligence they were given was accurate, they would hope they wouldn’t be captured, tortured or killed. They hoped they’d live to see another day and be able to start the good fight all over again.

At this exact moment Solo and Kuryakin had, for all intents and purposes, run out of hope.

Illya Kuryakin could speak five languages and understand another four. He was conversant with the works of many of the world’s greatest writers, poets, and philosophers. Chemistry was something he could understand and utilise, especially where it came to explosives, and he was well up on the basics of quantum mechanics. He was even beginning to get a grasp on all the ridiculous idioms which Napoleon liked to annoy him with. What Illya was having difficulty with, however, were the new security arrangements for the U.N.C.L.E. armoury.
