I know, school is out and we're not in a class, but sometimes we do review here.  Periodically I like to post the profile info for Section VII for everyone's benefit.  We've had a number of new members added both here and on Dreamwidth, and sometimes the original mission gets left behind as we write and grow.  Not that we're in violation of anything, this is not aimed at anyone so don't panic.

The Unified Northern Casualty and Liability Exchange proudly presents The Great Episode Challenge.

This monthly challenge includes two prompts drawn from a single episode, allowing you to explore unresolved scenes, unanswered questions, and uncertain motivations.

And now for tonight's program.

In New York City, on a street in the East Forties, there’s an ordinary tailor shop. Or is it ordinary?

Just as a reminder, The Writer's and Reader's Choice!
Is on hiatus for the Summer and will return in the Fall.

[identity profile] mrua7.livejournal.com
Some of our offerings here on Section VII will be going on hiatus for the Summer...that'll make plenty of time for you to focus on the new "Summer of MFU" Challenge being posted on AO3. The information on that can be found HERE.

Challenges etc. on hiatus will be as follows:
PicFic
Song Story
What if?
WRITER'S AND READER'S CHOICE!

On-going will be:
The Short Affair Challenge
The Great Episode Challenge
A Little Drabble Do Ya!
The LifeCycle Challenge.

Finishing out this week is 'The ABC Affair Challenge."

Of course you can also use the downtime to catch up on any challenges you've missed. (I know I'll be doing that! both writing and reading)
Open posting for Non-challenge stories is always on as usual!

It's going to be a great season for the Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Thanks to everyone who joined in the discussion yesterday on evolving values and attitudes.  I'm saying that's what it was, but you can check it out HERE The topic centers on Robert Vaughn and some comments he made, but I think the general concensus makes for interesting reading.  And for the record, I am going to say I play a Devil's Advocate role here ;)

The ABC Affair keeps on churning out good stories, and I'm still trying to catch up.  If you haven't joined in on this one yet, you can absolutely do so by starting from the beginning or jumping in where we are currently.  There are no real rules here.

We're going to be seeing challenges take a break for the summer, but that doesn't mean inactivity.  We'll be doing some impromptu challenges, and of course it's a time for you to catch up on stories you intended to write but never got around to finishing.  I have several of those myself.  Choose any of the tags and peruse the prompts, see if something clicks for you.

I'm still importing daily to Dreamwidth, and I'm guessing we've amped up the entries on AO3 by quite a bit with our new policy of posting links rather than complete stories here on LJ.  That's what happened on ff.net when the stories started pouring out of Section VII during our first year.  The number of MFU stories doubled, and most of that was due to the postings from writers who had responded to challenges.  Kudos to everyone who has been keeping this fandom active with your fiction and love of Solo and Kuryakin.

Now, let me throw out a couple of ideas.  First one: I'd love to see a video challenge.  I realize that is a limited group who do such things, and it doesn't include me.  But I do think it would be fun, and I have a song that I'd like to use as the prompt.  All I need are some videographers, or whatever we should call people who can do this amazing craft.[livejournal.com profile] vysila and
[livejournal.com profile] bluemeanybeany are two that I can think of at the moment.  Anyway, that's on my wish list.

Second, I've discussed this with [livejournal.com profile] mrua7 and she doesn't think I'm crazy.  The 1967 television season was the fourth and final season of MFU.  The last episodes, The Seven Wonders of the World Affair (two parter), aired on January 8 & 15 of 1968.  For me, that makes the last season within the 1967 time frame, which means we're in another 50 Year Anniversary.  I was thinking that we might do another big challenge, similar to the 50th Anniversary Big Bang, for which we write another ending to the show.  It would need to be a minimum of 5000 words, with illustrations included per the author's choice.
What do you think?  I'm open to comments and suggestion, but I think this has potential.  It would be a longer term challenge, say three months to finish it and post before the holidays begin.

A scary start to the day today with tornado warnings, severe thunder storm warnings...yikes.

Well here it is Saturday and that means it's time for Writer's and Reader's Choice!

What could be better than spending time with our favourite U.N.C.L.E. agents?

Showcase something you've written yourself which you're proud of, or which may have been missed.
On the other hand, you could recommend a writer you have a passion for, or one which is relatively unknown.

So Writers and Readers, post links to your gen or gen-mature  MFU fics here in Section VII
 on Dreamwidth

Just a reminder that posting for LIFECYCLE: Awakening Challenge is now open on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu.

Please be sure and give your post a subject reflective of the challenge (including a title for the story itself). Do use the lifecycle tag to identify your story. As a courtesy, please remember to place the majority of your story under a cut.

Posting for the challenge will remain open through next Saturday, June 24th.

With my current schedule, I was not able to compose something for this particular challenge myself, but I look forward to reading the stories.
