Defeat/Determination - A Little Drabble Do Ya

Sorry I've not been around for a long time. I've been ill for the last few months, and my mother-in-law died. Not a good year.

Napoleon sat watching the building burn, ears ringing, numb to the paramedic hovering over him.

UNCLE reinforcements had arrived, full of trite sympathy. It wasn't your fault. I know you tried. Tried. Sure, but trying wasn't enough.

"Mr Solo."

He blinked and Mr Waverly came into focus. "Sir."

"Quite a to-do. The records are all burned?"

"Yes." He swallowed thickly. "And the girl is...gone."

"I see." Mr Waverly regarded him for a long moment. "You will do better next time, Mr Solo."

It sounded like a threat, or a warning, but it made him feel so much better than any of the platitudes.

"Yes, sir," he promised.

A very serious and sad tale for Napoleon. Well done!

And welcome back. You were missed!

Another terrific bit of fic from you. Loved the last two lines.

Sorry to hear you were ill and for the loss of a family member. You have been in my thoughts.

Thanks for this finely written and moving drabble. You do a good job of channelling Waverly.

My deep condolences for the death of your mother-in-law; and best wishes for your health, and for everything else.

Such a wonderfully sad tale. Mr Waverly knows what his men need.

Welcome back. I trust you are well on the road to recovery, and please accepts my sympathies for your loss.
