They had little choice but hey, a disguise was a disguise. That was Kuryakin's way of thinking.
They thumbed through the racks of clothing backstage in the wardrobe department of a theatre in which they'd take refuge.
"How about this?" Napoleon facetiously held up a rich chocolate velvet jacket and a pair of white breeches.
"If we were in Edwardian England it would be perfect however since we are in the 20th century, something a bit more modern is in order, do you not think," Illya tried not to be snide. "Tact and stealth are our friends; that outfit is neither."
"But it looks pretty natty," Napoleon smiled before tossing it aside. "And it's my color." He couldn't resist teasing the ever serious Russian even though they were in a tight situation.
"Here this will do, and it looks like your size," Illya held up a frilly pastel pink number.
"Oh no I'm not wearing that! Keep looking, there's has to be something we can use?"
Kuryakin huffed his impatience. "Napoleon now is not the time to be a fashion plate. We need to change our appearance to something that will not be overt and allow us to fool those thugs when they catch up to us."
"Fine! Here how's this?" Solo held up a double breasted pinstripe suit, the lapels were a little wide but it would do. A false grey beard, added spectacles along with a fedora and he'd look like a dapper old gent. He picked a silver handled cane for effect as well.
"This takes care of me but how about you? Why don't you try that pink number tovarisch," Napoleon didn't hesitate snickering.
Illya shrugged his indifference and in minutes he was clothed in the pink dress, replete with a fur stole, and a pair of matching pumps. He put a brown wig on his head, a pink pillbox hat and applied some quick eye liner, rouge and lipstick.
"Well you're not exactly a looker," Napoleon gave him the once over." Still you'll pass. Now shall we?" He offered his arm to his partner.
"Just remember," Illya said without batting an eye."It takes a real man to wear pink."
Solo had no comeback to that one…
"What Napoleon, no pernicious pun?"
"I'm working on it. Just keep walking... dear," he winked.
As they stepped out to the street, the thugs who'd been following them made an immediate appearance, but walked right past the UNCLE agents. Illya's appearance garnered an immediate cat call from a taxi driver who was parked curbside.
"I take it back tovarisch, you must be better looking than I first thought."
Illya seemed rather miffed. "Now I know how a woman must feel when being ogled in such a way."
"Where to luv?" The driver asked, while eyeing the Russian.
Kuryakin responded, lowering the octave of his voice to a more threatening tone," Call me that again and all ten of your fingers will be twisted like pretzels. Now just drive."
"Ummm….yes ma'am. My apologies, no 'arm meant."
They arrived at London headquarters, and upon entering the building Illya was quite the hit with the ladies for some reason, much to Napoleon's consternation…
"See, you should have tried the disguise when I suggested it," Kuryakin nonchalantly said.
"I'll keep that in mind next time," Solo chuckled. "Though pink really isn't my color."
Illya could do nothing but roll his eyes, perhaps for the hundredth time.

This probably kicked off the rumors about him being gay, but really he knew McDowell back from making 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' and he was a fellow Brit so there was that familiar background connection in a foreign land so to speak.
Everyone in Hollywood knew McDowell was gay, though he never officially came out, and he had a lot of gay fiends at his parties So people probably thought the same of David, and of course that fueled the rumors about him and Vaughn. Ahhh, such is Hollywood.
Glad you liked this little offering and thanks for commenting! Good to see you back on LJ!
