Excellent story. Your vivid descriptions made me almost imagine being there with them. The Solo luck must have been present when they found themselves on 'temporarily' inhabited uninhabited island.

(They have my luck when it comes to anything celestial. Every meteor shower or eclipse is always obscured by cloud when I try to see it.)

Thank you so much. That's what I was aiming for, being more vivid in my descriptions. The eclipse was an actual event and the research teams on the island of Manuae were really there.

When I was looking for an uninhabited island in the South Pacific, I found the Manuae and discovered its claim to fame with the expedition to view the eclipse in 1965. Talk about serendipity.
