An Important Lesson - A Little (Triple) Drabble Do Ya! - February 26th

This triple drabble was prompted by today's word of the day, which is 'Bromide'. https://section7mfu.livejournal.com/2753665.html

Illya Kuryakin sighed in frustration at the bromide words from his nurse. It was a litany of trite and soothing platitudes, designed to put him at his ease. He briefly wondered if nurses were taught them during training.

“Please stop,” he said, a little too forcefully.

“Am I hurting you,” the nurse asked. “I’m afraid I have to redress the wound to prevent infection.”

Nurse Lily Fiennes was new to U.N.C.L.E. medical, and had yet to learn how to deal with Illya.

“I wish you to stop talking to me like a child,” he snapped. “I know I will be fine, I know that my wound will heal, and I am fully aware that you are being as gentle as possible!”

Tears sprang to Lily’s eyes.

“Please don’t go upsetting my staff Mr Kuryakin,” scolded head nurse Maisie Redfearn, as she entered the room.

“I have an extremely vital lesson for you,” she said to Lily. “Illya Kuryakin is a kitten who has the roar of a lion. His doesn’t mean to upset you, so don’t take his words to heart. Most importantly, don’t take any nonsense for him. You are in charge while he is in your care. Isn’t that right, Illya?”

The Russian’s eyes flashed with ice and he crossed his arms in defiance.

“You have just demanded not to be spoken to like a child,” Maisie reminded him. “That might hold more weight if you weren’t acting like one.”

Illya’s expression softened and he gave the nurses one of his heart-melting half-smiles.

“I apologise,” he said contritely. “I just don’t like being stuck here.”

“Apology accepted,” Lily replied, returning the smile. “Let’s finish this dressing.”

As he watched the beautiful young nurse work, Illya decided he would make it up to her by inviting her to dinner.
