I like this follow up to the previous story, and it is perfectly understandable that Solo would be shaken by the girl's death, and the manner of it. This is a man accustomed to cajoling and charming his way to victory; she was determined to not let him succeed.
For the two friends to be able to quietly but firmly establish their own parameters in the face of nationalistic zeal is why they are able to fight the good fight.
