That was just beautiful, and agonizingly poignant. I think it conveys what we seem to neglect; the world these men inhabit is dark when observed from other than the lense of a tv camera. Illya coming to terms with this life altering decision, the 'New World', other agents... all of it is compelling.
I hope the story telling serves you as a catharsis of sorts for the real life mood you mentioned.
