Little Things Mean A Lot - A Little Drabble Do Ya

A double drabble...
:~~~~~:~~~~~:

“It’s six o’clock.”

“Then it is time we begin.”

“Are you sure you want to do this?”

Blue eyes rolled dramatically at the question.

“We have been briefed and prepared for this, Napoleon.  Do we really have a choice?”

Solo sighed and nodded his head.  He wasn’t afraid.  He wasn’t afraid.

“All right, lead the way.”

“Me?  Why should I go first, since you are the senior agent?”

Napoleon opened the door and took a deep breath.  He was greeted by a smiling Heather McNabb and a row of cribs.

“Oh good, you’re here. Social Services will be here later, but these little darlings need to be fed now.”

The babies had been rescued from an enterprising THRUSH satrapy that had gone into the baby bartering business; a despicable arm of the Hierarchy’s ongoing criminal activities.  Now they were being cared for in a safe house belonging to UNCLE, manned by personnel who could be spared from Headquarters.

“Heather, I know nothing about babies.  I am really more useful as security, don’t you think?”

“Oh Napoleon...”  Illya leaned in and gingerly picked up a little bundle wrapped in a yellow blanket.

“This, my friend, is why we risk our lives.”

Who knew a drabble could be so moving? Lovely, unexpected ending.

How sweet and Illya's last line so poignant. Napoleon's unspoken mantra about not being afraid is so typical of men in the 60's. Master Spy Extraordinaire bracing himself for a terrifying task.

I always love reading stories that show Illya's tender, compassionate side! This was perfect!

Wow, very clever and unexpected!

Terrificly put, Illya. And good for Heather. I notice the rest of the headquarters staff found their schedules full to an unlikely degree.

Even for THRUSH, that strikes me as raw. My own personal hope is that Angelique and/or Serena tipped them off in the first place.

So sweet. Illya's last line is absolute perfection.

Actually, considering THRUSH's other schemes, baby bartering seems pretty mild

The truth comes out - Napoleon isn't commitment phobic - he's allergic to babies *l*.

Says it all doesn't it.
