Actually corned beef was invented in Hell's Kitchen in NYC. A lot slaughter houses were in that area in the way back when and people would get the cheaper cuts of beef and soak it in a salt brine to tenderized it.

I had corned beef growing up BUT my mom always made the boiled bacon cabbage and potatoes the rest of the year. We were from the 'Irish Riviera'...Far Rockaway.
