Having to wait for Napoleon Solo was an occupational hazard for Illya Kuryakin. Admittedly, he wasn’t late when it mattered but, the rest of the time, he was usually tardy. At least this time, Illya had something to occupy his mind while he waited. He was leaning against a street lamp watching the Krewe of Endymion pass by in one of the New Orleans Mardi Gras parades. It wasn’t so much the parade itself which had distracted his thoughts, though it did prove entertaining, but the name of the Krewe.

The Yugoslavia Affair. Why Illya left UNCLE.

This is one of the first pieces of MFU fiction I wrote, partly inspired by the mismatch between the series and the Return movie. It's quite long - over 7000 words in two chapters - and forms part of a series. The sequel to this episode is "Shake hands forever", when all is resolved.

What was it with Illya and crazy blondes?

Flames on a train

Illya hadn’t returned to their compartment after the strange ending to the mission. He had agreed with Napoleon that they should exchange compartments with Eva, to relieve her distress over the death of her employer, and had then disappeared. Not prepared to lower his moral standards by attempting to seduce a nineteen-year-old virgin, Napoleon found himself alone. He had a pretty fair idea of where his partner was, however. Two doors along, bursting into flames with that crazy girl. He seemed to be taken with crazy blondes, or more probably they with him, though not invariably with this kind of success. There had been a moment, not long ago, when it looked likely that Tracey Alexander might have her wicked way with him – but no. Illya couldn’t offer enough money or status for more than a kiss. It seemed he was a bit luckier this time.

Ginny had a spring in her step as she walked through the staff entrance of U.N.C.L.E. New York. To the envy of her colleagues in the secretarial pool, she had been promoted to the job of personal assistant to Mr Solo and Mr Kuryakin.

The two agents were tidying their office – rather in the manner of households who employ a weekly cleaner but who frantically clean up beforehand.

“Where shall I put this?”

“On that pile. What is it?”

Once upon a Time Affair. 12-25 November 2017 (Theme: thankfulness)

Snow Maiden

(To keep awake in the cold, and save their lives, Illya tells a story…)

The day was cold and crisp, with the clouds overhead threatening a heavy snowfall. For one of the two figures on the otherwise empty clifftop the chill of winter no longer held any discomfort. It never would again.

Illya slithered down the slippery paths to get back to Napoleon waiting at the bottom.

“He was alone. I hid his body, so, if anyone comes to relieve him, they won’t know for a while.”

“Right. Let’s move.”

“Better get into the white camouflage, first. Less weight to carry, too.” Illya had left his backpack to climb the cliff, and its bulk was now daunting after the strenuous exercise.

The great forest loomed ahead, ancient and, with dense undergrowth, all but impenetrable. Even with the help of the trails of small animals, and occasionally the wider path of larger beasts, their progress wasn’t going to be fast, and it was snowing heavily.( Read more... )
