Ladies First - My Aunt Amy Stories

She's one of the ladies of MFU, no doubt about it. Ironically, Aunt Amy shows up only once and it's in the Return Movie, the most contentiously debated element within UNCLE canon... Or is it canon? People love to write about Amy while refusing to embrace the only 'episode' in which she is mentioned.
Oh well...
My take on Amy is very different, and I make no apologies for seeing it from a completely different vantage point. The stories are who I think she is and how she fit into the lives of our agents. I posted these once before in a Writer's Choice, but they seem appropriate for this Ladies First event we're enjoying this weekend.
I hope you enjoy these, for the first time or as a return visit. Although each of them was posted here on LJ, I'm providing the link to the series on AO3.

The ladies (we use that term with tongue in cheek precision), on both sides of law and order are worthy of some story time. There are some good stories already out there, and a few I imagine on the tips of someone's imagination. Today let's post stories, old and new. You can take the weekend (or longer), if you're writing a new story. Today is inspiration day, so let's see how the ladies fare. The feature used to be titled Ladies First, so let's use that tag.
No limits on word count, gen here on Section VII and Het over on mfu_map_room

Fretful (A double and a half drabble) - Ladies First - April 22nd

Kissing her husband goodbye as he headed off to work, Veronica Waverly once again had to hold back the urge to stop him from going. She’d had the same urge every time he’d left the house for the last forty years. Every day she worried that today would be the day that his enemies would succeed in their many attempts at assassination. At home, and at the office, she knew that he was relatively safe, but the journey between the two was an extremely different matter.

Mrs Waverly knew, however, that she would never try and stop him from leaving the safety of their home, despite her fears. She had known all her married life that the security of the world would always take precedence over that of Alexander.

Arriving at U.N.C.L.E. headquarters, Mr Waverly, went straight to his office; greeting his secretary before he entered. Lisa Rogers gathered together the notes and messages which were waiting for her boss, but she knew better than to go in just yet. She would always wait for five minutes before starting the business of the day.

Inside the office, the Old Man picked up the telephone and dialled the number without even having to think about it.

“I’m still in one piece, dear,” he said when his wife answered. “Have a wonderful day and I shall see you, safe and sound, this evening.”

At the other end of the line, Mrs Waverly smiled the same relieved one she did every morning.

The expression on Julia Armstrong’s face, as she entered the secretarial pool, was enough to strike fear into every woman there. They could tell she had bad news, and that it was going to make life quite difficult for someone.

“Illya is hurt,” she announced to the group.

“Is he alright?” Deirdre demanded

“He’ll be fine,” Julia replied, “But he’s in medical in the LA office, not here. Napoleon is here, so you know what that means.”

“He’ll be doing his own paperwork,” said Deirdre, with resignation. “And I have a feeling it’s my turn to decipher the Solo Hieroglyphics?”

Mr. Solo and the Teenybopper for Ladies First

Ladies start out as teenagers, and this one is ready for action, or so she thinks...

The blaring sounds of rock and roll music were assaulting the ears of Napoleon Solo. No matter how well he mastered the art of au currant, the CEA of UNCLE Northwest found it virtually impossible to enjoy a meal with Mick Jagger and the Stones providing the background. His younger companion, a perky blond with a ponytail and braces, was suffering no such aversion to the sound blasting from a set of Bose speakers hot off the assembly line, that graced the walls of this Uptown apartment.

Solo had grudgingly drawn this assignment, much to the relief of his less accommodating Russian partner. Illya would most likely have turned off the stereo and challenged Clarissa Dupont to a staring contest rather than endure music not to his liking. Illya was particular about his music.

She tasted like strawberries, smelled like them too. That was one of the last thoughts drifting through Napoleon’s Solo’s head as he closed his eyes, a smile on his lips.

Revenge (Double Drabble) - Ladies First - March 25th

Head Nurse, Maisie Redfearn, was only mildly surprised by the sight which greeted her upon entering Illya Kuryakin’s room. It was bound to have happened sooner or later and, although she was going to have to discipline her nurses, she couldn’t help but find the situation funny. The two younger women had the decency to look ashamed of what they had done, but the face of the Russian was sporting the ghost of a smirk.

“Do you have anything to say Mr Kuryakin?”

“This is entirely my fault,” he told her, with genuine contrition in his voice. “I once again took my frustration out on these ladies, who were simply doing their duty. For this I apologise, and I shall endeavour to alter my behaviour in the future.”

“Apology accepted,” Maisie replied, desperately trying not to smile. “Maybe now, you can understand how it feels for the nurses when you throw things at them.”

She turned to Nurse Jenson and Nurse Locke.

“I know this has been coming for a long time, but you are meant to be professionals. Throwing green jello at a Section 2 agent is not a good career move, no matter how much he deserves it.”

A change of pace for "Ladies First." I came upon this little gem of a fan vid completely by accident.

Not a lively video but it really gives you a great overview of how many (as David says in the video) beautiful women appeared on the show. Robert's comment regarding that subject is just soooo "Napoleon."

Sidney Miller was practically dancing down the corridors of UNCLE New York, something not generally anticipated by the normally stoic inhabitants. Saving the world was serious business, and those whose jobs it was to do the saving tended to be a rather serious bunch.

“What kind of person has cells in their basement?”

“You’d be surprised,” Illya mumbled.

Cat was sitting, cross-legged, in one corner, while the injured Russian lay on the small cot. Ignoring his grumpy protestations, she had seen to Illya’s gunshot wound, and found it was merely a graze. It would be sore, but it wasn’t life-threatening. She was still worried about him, though. The kick which had been aimed at his head had been particularly brutal. The man was still dazed, and seemed to be having a little difficulty focusing on things. Despite this, he kept telling her he was fine.

"A Brave New World" reworked for Ladies First

Lisa Rogers was one of the few people who kept to themselves, perhaps even more than Illya Kuryakin. Her position with the Command was not that of a secretary; she was the personal assistant to one of the most powerful men of U.N.C.L.E. Alexander Waverly.

She was not only that, but she was his bodyguard and confidant well; often sitting with him in his conference room over a good cup of darjeeling tea while he thought aloud through a particular dilemma. He valued her insightful opinions as well as her discretion.

There were times Lisa thought about moving up to Section I someday, as there were plenty of positions she could easily handle, given her experience with Waverly. She’d gone to Survival School, trained and qualified to become a field agent before the likes of April Dancer, but opted to fill her current position instead. She saw a need and filed it, and quite well at that.

It was a decision that slipped quietly by everyone at headquarters, as Lisa was new and hadn’t established herself. To everyone she simply became the new private secretary, whose name was added to a long list of her predecessors.

Alexander Waverly went through them like grains of sand through the fingers so no one really paid attention to them, as they were here one day and gone another... that was until Rogers arrived.

Moira Laidlaw, Phyllis Wolsey and Pauline Harris had enjoyed a wonderful day of shopping. The three friends, who all worked as file clerks for the U.N.C.L.E., rarely got to spend time together outside of work; so a shopping day was a rare treat. They were just getting back into Moira’s car, when a familiar figure caught their attention.

Across the street, Illya Kuryakin was running, and looking over his shoulder; he was clearly being pursued. As the women watched, a black car screeched to a stop, and two men jumped out. They tackled Illya, who tried to fight them off, until they were joined man the man who had been chasing him. The three women couldn’t see what happened, but something caused the Russian to drop to the ground, unconscious.

She circled the room like a predatory animal, dressed in a tight pink blouse and a black pencil skirt. The click of her stiletto heels echoed off the white tiled walls.

“Ahhh, Illya Illya why must we go through this again? It really is becoming tedious.” She stopped in front of the agent, looking him up and down, finally leaning in, her face close to his.

Kuryakin was suspended from the ceiling, his bound wrists on an heavy metal hook.

“Serena, I agree with you wholeheartedly. You do not have to do anything you know; you have a choice and given you find ‘this’ wearisome, perhaps it is just time to stop and let me go free?”

This part had been intended to fit with yesterday’s picture prompt but, because my mind decided to make life difficult the last few days, it wasn’t ready. Added to that, I couldn’t find a way to get the prompt into the story anyway. So, I give you part 3, which isn’t attached to any prompt.

I would also like to thank mrua7 and spikesgirl58 for the instructions on how to do fancy links. If I’ve understood them properly, there should be two lovely links to the previous parts just before the story.

Edited to add - I have another reason to thank mrua7. I stated above that this story doesn't link to a prompt but, as she points out, it fits nicely with today's Ladies First theme. I have amended the title line and tags accordingly.

Illya was lying on the bed, seemingly examining the fingernails on his right hand, when THRUSH came for him. He’d attempted to break the chain holding him but, despite being stronger than he looked, he was far from superhuman. An eyebrow was raised in surprise as two THRUSH operatives, four guards, Mrs Partridge and her two men entered the room. All, bar Mrs Partridge who was carrying bolt-cutters, had some sort of gun pointed at him

My thanks to laurose8 for her suggestion to post a link to this story of mine to LADIES FIRST because of the rather unique Thrush "villain". (Is she or isn't she a villain? Be interested to hear readers' take on that question.)

Napoleon remained still, continuing to study the control panel while trying to ignore Castex as he bellowed with laughter.

The man was finally silenced when several other guards entered the control room; dressed in typical green T.H.R.U.S.H. coveralls and wearing black berets. One of them was a little short compared to the others and seemed to be staying behind them as if he were trying to remain out of view.

There was something very familiar with the man’s gait and realizing that, Napoleon smiled again for a second time.
