I think rec'ing a story is a good thing to do on a non-challenge day. Well, that and write a Fourth Wall story or that Impromptu Challenge from a week or so ago. Hit the tags for those items and see what's happening.
I just loaded this story onto AO3. I think I've rec'd it. before, probably for Writer's Choice. But it's entertaining, I laughed as I read it. That must be a good sign, right? To laugh at your own stories.
So, here it is... just as tongue in cheek and frothy as it gets.

I know today is not a recc'ing day but I felt I had to recommend 'Zaporoche' by mrua7 (aka. Mlaw). I was watching my favourite Ukrainian dance troupe, Virsky, on YouTube and came across their Zaporozhian Cossack dance. The name immediately reminded me of Marian's fantastic story in which a young Illya visits the Cossacks of the Kuban Steppes, and I went and re-read it straight away. I've no doubt that most of you will have already read it, but for those of you who haven't, click the pic of the dancers to go to ff.net

Archives and Romance...

In visiting the Archives I came upon a story I don't remember reading previously, the link to which is below.
Alone by ssclassof56 . You can search out her other stories by using her tag.

Reading the story got me thinking about the romances that have sprung up among the stories about Illya and Napoleon, and even Alexander Waverly via the Correspondence Affair by avirra. I never really enjoyed the long term romances until a few of them began to make sense to me, and carried with them memorable accounts of the true love we should hope can come to the men we admire, even if it can't be us. You know what I'm saying ;)
Among our own writers a few stand out for the breadth of adventure and intrigue that we should find in stories rooted in the spy genre. Perhaps the most ambitious and equally rewarding, The Coal Miner's Wife by rosywonder . It is an epic and grand story that will make you believe in love against the odds.

If you haven't read the romantic saga of Illya and Elliott, his Irish firebrand. I will leave the directions on finding all of those stories to mrua7, and an explanation about when she's going to bring back the super spy couple.

I hope you find enjoyment in these stories, they're perfect for weekend reading.

To say I've had trouble keeping up with things is a big understatement. I am not organized under the best of circumstances, and lately I've been very scattered with work and other activities, obligations, etc...
So, I've posted a drabble a day late, and now I'm thinking we can rec some stories. Let us know you're out there and we'll post some things that haven't seen the light of day for a while.
I was left a kudos on this little story and it turned out I had forgotten all about it. I think it's worth looking at again.

I don't know for certain that it's hot everywhere, but I'm thinking it is in most places. We've not topped out at 100 degrees yet except in the Heat Index, but 90's is plenty hot. A friend whose house is a short walk to the beach in San Clemente (California), says they've been in the 90's as well. It didn't used to be hot on the coast.
So, what about New York City, on the block where Del Floria's welcomes the agents of the U.N.C.L.E.? Just how hot is it, and how do Solo and Kuryakin bear up under oppressive heat and humidity?
We're taking a bit of a break from Writer's & Reader's Choice, but since we're waiting for the next round of stories to post (Song Story, Once Upon A Time, Short Affair), I was thinking we might give a call out for stories where the guys have to battle the elements. You can post all day, all weekend... have some fun.
This one of mine is an ode to the temperature and another sort of heat wave. I hope you have a nice day, and a cold drink.

It Could Be Christmas In July...

A lot of people and businesses indulge in that idea, a mid-year Christmas to get through the hottest days of summer. I was reminded of a story, my Down the Chimney Affair entry from the event this past year, The Butterfly Effect.
It was requested by pactnmmt and, looking back now it seems particularly poignant after the loss of her husband recently. So I'm posting it here, hoping that our cousin is doing well in the days following her loss, and sending her butterflies on the wind.

My recommended story is one of the first MFU fanfics I ever read, and originally I forget where I read it; however I have just rediscovered it on ManFromUncleWikiFoundry.com, where it seems Solo's Girl has posted a number of her stories,. This is a very sweet fic which really touches me each time I read it. The Photo Affair, by Solo's Girl.

A long time ago, a photographer snapped a chance picture of a cold, thin and hungry little boy. The photo won a pulitzer and the photographer became famous. The child . . .
