The Fortune Cookie Affair, Chapter 18

April tailed Angelique to an abandoned warehouse in Red Hook, Brooklyn.  She loathed the woman, but had to admire the professionalism she showed in checking for danger before entering through the loading dock.

She counted to twenty and then proceeded inside.  She could just hear Angelique moving forward when suddenly, the sounds of a struggle reached her ears. A man screamed in pain and then she heard Angelique let loose a string of profanity in French and English.  I have to tell Illya they have cursing in common.

She snuck to where she heard voices and glanced from behind boxes to see the THRUSH lying on the ground with Wye’s gun to her head and Ecks unconscious on the floor.

“Where’s the antidote to your fingernail poison?
I’ll kill you!”

“Go ahead, you freak!  I’ll never tell! You’re traitors!”

“Then I kill you with pleasure, you bitch!”

Phht!  April’s sleep dart found its mark and Wye collapsed.  Angelique’s head whipped around to see the UNCLE agent emerge from her hiding place and her eyes widened. “That miserable little Russian will detest you for saving my life, but I thank you.”

“You’re welcome.  Let’s see what’s happening in this place.”

Oui.

Thanks for this exciting chapter. The fingernail poison is excellent. Good work on - and from - both women.

Excellent chapter! And now perhaps the plot is beginning to reveal itself.

Lindafishes8 is up next.

Ooh, very nice. And now Angelique and April are working together? That can't possibly last. And I did love the fingernail poison.

It reminds me of the character Lucrece Posey on The Wild Wild West, who used fingernail poison to kill Snakes Tolliver in my icon. (Played by the same actor who played Ecks. Hmm, his early characters certainly seemed to get into unfortunate disasters.)

It's basically U.N.C.L.E. in the Old West, with a steampunk flair. :) It's great.

Uh oh, I wonder why Ecks is on the floor and if Angelique used her poison on him, too (as well as on Jie). Judging from the episode itself, that could certainly account for Wye flipping out on her. While it's illogical and disturbing behavior, I do rather like the implication that he cares about Ecks very much. If that's what happened here, I hope Wye will wake up from the dart in enough time to find the antidote!

This Round Robin, and especially hurt/comforty parts like yours, make me want to start writing a new U.N.C.L.E. fic with these rascals. I actually have started one, only it's not the one I should have been starting (the sequel to The Peaceful Meadows Affair). Ah, plunnies....

Mwaaaahahaaaaaaaaa!

Love it! The tension and excitement mount up nicely. So Ecks and Wye are on the outs with Thrush and April is working with Angelique...hmmm. It will be very interesting to see where the story goes next!

Great chapter! I have a feeling the girls have some admiration for each other, making their way in a man's world so to speak.

This is a very important chapter, you've created a true turning point to the story. Well done, I'm anxious to read more.
