Question?

Anyone getting hit with spam/comments? I've gotten a bunch today, same message but different user names. Deleted and reported as spam, changed my settings and password. Not much else to do I guess.

Yeah, but those settings didn't help much with comments because those commenters are registered members of lj. I don't want to make the community open only to members for comments as that kind of defeats the purpose of fanfic being posted to the site.

If it is one (or two) particular entries that are being spammed and if that or those is/are old entries, you can lock the entry to further comments. Did that with the one entry of mine on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu. Apparently whatever way they are finding the entries to comment upon is being targeted by some kind of word finder or such. So certain words, even though used in an entirely innocent context, will trigger the comment getting posted to the entry. Locking the entry to further comments leaves the existing comments in place, but doesn't allow any further ones to be added. So that defeats their search engine thing, since the targeted entry can't be commented on any longer.

another person on my flist just quit LJ because she said the spam was just too much.

I haven't seen any on my LJ. I have a permanent account and don't see ads either.

The last time I remembered weird spam, they were comments in Russian. Is that happening now?

People are spamming with links to a product or page. Just report it and delete it, it's not personal. A few of them are lj users, for this purpose only probably, and many are anonymous. If you filter your comments to not accept anonymous they won't get past that.

I've deleted about a half dozen or so that came through with some kind of link and were posted here on this comm. One or two of them have accounts on lj, and are using the site to promote business ops of some sort. If it came in on section7 then it isn't related to your page, I don't think. But, settings changed may help.
