"Weather or not" a double drabble story- Chapter 20

It was tedious work and hard on the back as Kuryakin traced the wire down through the tower. At one point he lost it as a hole had been drilled and the wire disappeared through it.

Going downstairs, it was again picked up. It ran along the walls, out the main entrance, and continued along on the landing outside, down the narrow steps.

The wire veered off and dropped down the precipice known as the ‘Cliff’ right into ...Turtle Pond?

The string of epithets that came from Kuryakin’s mouth even made his partner blush.

“Take it easy Illya, we’ll find it.” Solo reassured him.

He looked down to the water alive with Red-Eared Slider turtles that populated the pond. Most likely pets abandoned there at one time by apartment dwellers in the city.

The sun was blazing again and the turtles were basking on rocks at the base of Vista Rock’ their heads raised upwards.

Illya angrily tossed a pebble, skipping on the water, sending ripples across its surface. The turtles now provoked, quickly slipped back into the cool waters.

“This will take time to search the circumference of the pond... perhaps diving equipment might be in order?”

Napoleon sighed.

Turtle Pond sounds a nice place. Hope they don't bother the turtles too much.

Well, it was probably quite a task to lay all this; though, unfortunately, it was probably only the lowest Thrush echelons who got themselves sweaty and dirty.

Only time will tell! Lots more to come and thanks for commenting. Turtle pond is a real place in the park and the turtles there are definitely released pets who've thrived into a huge turtle colony. Pretty cool!

Don't know if you'll be able to see this video of Turtle Pond with a great view of the castle in the background.

Bummed, I had a feeling you wouldn't be able to. It shows the turtles swimming around in the pond, sunning themselves on rocks, with the castle off in the background.

Glad you liked them and the fact that you appreciate the descriptions. I really studied the castle and pond to get a good visual in my head. I'd say there's about another week of chapters for sure. I know how you like long stories.

I have a nice long one I'll be publishing after the dead fish WIP is done. It was a story request written for Lindafishes. Longest story I've written in a while. Made my top 10 list of longer stories...I think. About 35,000 words.

They can actually get very large. The type of turtle are the kind you used to get in a pet store. They used to call them 'painted turtles."

Into the turtle pond? Not snapping turtles I hope. I have some experience with snappers and wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. Hope IK survives with all appendages (ALL appendages) intact.

I'm sure there's some snapping turtles there, if someone transplanted them. The pond became 'turtle pond' after people freed their pets there and the population has grown. I think people still bring their turtles there. There's lots of them, and I mean lots. You can also see raccoons crossing the pond, there's geese, and egrets. Lots of wild life in the middle of NYC. Stunning place.
