A Simple Request - A Little Drabble Do ya! - March 23rd

Napoleon paused outside his office door and took a deep breath. The news he had for Illya was not good, and he was loathe to deliver it. The CEA had honestly tried to get a positive decision for Russian’s request. He had flexed the power of his position and had used every ounce of his charm, but it was all for naught. He took another breath and stepped into the office.

“What is the answer?” Illya asked, his voice laden with hope.

“I’m sorry Illya. The commissary refuse to serve Shchi* because they say the smell would drive everyone away.”

*Russian Cabbage Soup.

And what's so bad about Shchi? Cabbage soup doesn't have any weird ingredients to make it stink? Cabbage, garlic, potato, onions. tomatoes, radishes, leeks, and carrots in a beef broth.
Unless people don't like the smell of cooked cabbage, I love it myself. lol!

Good one!

I guess since I never had badly cooked cabbage, then I don't know what it smells like. It was something that was never served in school. I grew up eating it, and mom would always make it with a smoked port butt, (and corned beef too) but the former we had year round.

Used to make it myself when I was allowed to eat it. Miss having it. Yummmmmmm.

Thanks for this very believable moment.

If Napoleon couldn't swing it, nobody could. And when I consider what the brassicas smell like...Let the cabbage whites have them, I say.

Poor Illya, just not getting home cooking

Living in the Pacific Northwest, and being one to often cook cabbage, I realized that boiled cabbage smells exactly like a paper mill......so when we travel along the Columbia River the smell of the paper mills reminds me of cabbage....

I'm with the cooks! Brussel sprouts and cabbage, yuck!

Poor Illya. Perhaps the nice old lady next door would make some for him. It was nice of Napoleon to try, though.

He probably will.
