Title:  This doesn’t happen too often

Word Count: Approximately 600

It was a moment of utter tranquility as Solo and Kuryakin both sat, staring out over the great pond that was the ocean while looking at the setting sun. Brilliant shades of pink, purple, orange and gold stretched across the sky in such an alluring enticement that the men permitted themselves a moment of unguarded relaxation.

Napoleon and Illya had removed their socks and shoes, as well as stripped down to their undershirts, enjoying the warmth that remained at the end of the day. The weary agents strolled along the strand in silence until they finally sat down in the pink sand.

Somehow that simple act seemed to take the weight of the world from their shoulders. It was a pleasant end to an unpleasant assignment, though it hadn’t been the worst one they’d been through.

This time they didn’t end up in a cell or physically tortured and beaten, though they might have gone so much as to say the assignment consisted of a sort of mental torture.

They’d been tasked with babysitting the wife of a U.S. Senator and the woman was possibly the most annoying female on the face of the earth. She complained nonstop about everything and everyone. Nothing Napoleon and Illya said or did made her happy. They had to keep their mouths shut, so there were no pity retorts to her from either man.

Under his breath Solo referred to her as a shrew; Kuryakin was far from polite and used a Russian word that made even his partner blush.

Napoleon’s last words when the assignment concluded were not to her but to her husband.

“Senator, you have my deepest sympathies.”

The man cringed,”Tell me about it.”

But now it was all over and the two put it out of their minds.

Wiggling his toes in the damp sand like a kid, Napoleon let out a long sigh, wistful sigh.

“Do we really have to go back tovarisch?”

“I think Mr. Waverly would be quite perturbed if we did not return, but I am feeling the same as you; it is nice here. “

Napoleon smiled.” Maybe we could call in sick...tell him we have the flu.”

“Napoleon, number one it is not flu season here in the Bahamas, and number two...well, maybe there is no number two.”

“Then I guess I better report to the Old Man.” Solo pulled his communicator with a sigh.”Open Channel D-overseas relay.”

“Yes Mr. Solo, how goes it?” Waverly asked.

“The Senator’s wife has been delivered safe and sound sir. No harm, unless you want to count our ears being chewed off.”

“Yes I am aware of her...personality. Job well done if having your ears suffer was the worst thing you experienced. The Senator has offered the use of his estate now that they are returning to Washington. A bit of an apology as it were for what you had to deal with, so perhaps a few days off for you both to recover are in order. I will see you and Mr. Kuryakin back at headquarters on Monday, barring any unforeseen emergencies.

“Thank you sir,” Napoleon grinned.”

“Oh and Mr. Solo, easy does it on the expense account. Waverly out.”

Napoleon turned to his partner to find him stretched out on the sand sound asleep with his hands clasped behind his head.

He chuckled, noting Illya didn’t waste any time.

However, sleeping on a beach was not exactly what Napoleon had in mind as he watched a shapely bikini clad brunette stroll up to him, holding out a bottle of beer.

“Why hello there,” he grinned.

Ah, a moment's peace (and by the sound of it, well-deserved) for our heroes!

Sounds like a beautiful spot for some R&R. Illya didn't waste any time, did he? :)

Thanks for sharing this enjoyable scene, with solid characters. And good for pointing out the partners probably would be landed with this sort of high profile tedium from time to time.

There are priorities, and priorities. Very nice, glad to read that the boys got some down time...LOL.

Wonderful. They deserve a little tranquility occasionally. I hope nothing crops up to drag them back too early.
