Very sad. I think most people who abuse drugs are trying to cover up some kind of mental pain. We don't provide enough help for mental/emotional illness in this country.

Drugs are an addiction, but you're right I think for a good many people that drug use has underlying issues that aren't being addressed enough. Look at all the celebrities who go to those fancy spa rehab centers, and go back again and again. The average person has access to very little unless they get themselves committed...which they don't.

So many parents what their children slowly kill themselves even after getting help.

My cousin dried of a drug overdose three years ago and she was on methadone...that was just substituting a legal drug for an illegal one and didn't address her problems. My best friend's daughter died 15 years ago died of a heroin overdose on Christmas Eve, after she'd been to rehab as well.

This particular story was inspired by events yesterday in my apartment complex. A woman OD'd and died in the building next to me at 1 am...despite EMT and Police intervention. At 9 am police and 2 ambulances were back again as her husband had overdosed (no out of grief...he just needed to get high) They gave him narcan, and that was that. At 9pm 6 police cars and 3 ambulances arrived at the same apartment. The husband was partying with his druggie friends (who live in the back of my building) and he OD'd AGAIN!. This time they took him away in an ambulance. One of the EMT's was overheard saying...they'll be back here again.

This was their 6th call to that apartments, one was for domestic abuse... oh yeah, the wife had just gotten out of jail came home OD'd and died...

The husband will end up killing himself too. What's so horrible on top of all this is they have a little girl who was finally taken away from them and is now in foster care. Hopefully the child will be placed with a good loving family. Still foster care can be tough.

The management here has stated that they have zero tolerance when it comes to drug, yet these people have been here for years and the landlord is making no attempt to get them out.

I'm very sorry about last night, and send my best wishes to that poor little girl. I hope I've given my condolences for your cousin, but extra hugs!

Thank you. I didn't know the little girl and am sure she'll never be with her father again, which is probably the best thing that will happen to her. Who needed parents like that?

And yes, you did offer condolences when my cousin passed, thanks again.

Yes I remember about David's adopted son Jason. This story was inspired by events in my apartment complex yesterday. A neighbor died of an overdose at 1am. 9 am the police and ambulances arrived as her husband had overdosed, but they gave him NARCAN and saved his life. At 9 pm 6 police units were back with 3 ambulances as the husband was partying with his druggie friends and OD'd again. This time they took him away in an ambulance. He'll probably OD again, and end up killing himself. The EMTs predict they'll be back here again.

This was the 5th or 6th time this month the PD and EMTs have been to the same apartment this month. One visit was to arrest the husband for domestic abuse... Apparently the wife just got out of jail, came home and OD'd. It's a real sickness, and a tragedy.
