Rainy Days and ... Fridays

It's raining and will be all day if the reports can be believed.  I have to work and both of my umbrellas are in the car.  Genius move on my part, and 100% likelihood that I'll get wet trying to go from my front door to the car.
LJ seems not quite as active as it once was, and I wonder if it's because of the UA or simply people drifting away.  I'll admit that writing hasn't been at the top of my list lately, too many distractions and the recent hospital visit have all contributed.  I am working on a story though, so I'm hopeful the muse is climbing back on board the story train.
Fridays are often for the Reading Room, sometimes an Impromptu Challenge.  Today I was just wondering if we might 'check in', so to speak.  Update the community on how things are rolling in your part of the world, what you're up to and how life is generally.
Section VII is more than MFU, it's become a gathering place.  So... let's gather in the comments section and have a chat.
p.s. I'll go first...

My head is still all over the place. Having been unemployed for over three years now, my anxiety and depression spells have been more frequent lately. As a result, my concentration levels are a little sporadic. I recently completed a Level 1 IT course, and I'll be starting Level 2 on May 23rd. I'm hoping that this course will give me a wider scope on the jobs market. Not having a job makes me feel like I'm not serving any sort of purpose.

As for my writing, I have a head full of great ideas which I'm dying to tell, but my concentration levels have been making it difficult to get them on the page. I've started the pic fic, which was due on May 2nd, 4 times now. I have been working on a non-challenge story which I'm trying to take my time over because I want it to be longer than usual. Actually, thinking about that story, I don't usually use a beta (as is probably glaringly obvious to a lot of people), but would anyone like to look over what I've written so far?

I've been having a hard time concentrating lately, which impedes the writing. I guess it was bound to happen, me hitting a dry spell. I have a lot of ideas lined up, plus several WIP (that are long stories) and I have a current WIP that just started that's a sort of cross over with the old 'Thin Man' characters, but now I've even gotten stuck on that one after only 2 short chapters.

I was so busy on concentrating on Danny's competition that my focus on MFU was just about pushed out of site. I need to refocus now but it's just not as easy as I thought it would be. Hoping that watching the DVD's might help but I still can find where I stuck them. Dang!

I know I've only written two or three things (mostly round robin stuff) - but I'm also dealing with medical issues...and geriatric dogs that require constant attention. I've got ideas, but the ooomph to actually write them is lacking. However....you never know.

I was able to complete a story for the Song Story Challenge, I'm proud to say. Still tweaking as everyone else does, I suppose. Haven't written anything new for quite a while. I should say 'posted' anything new because I've done quite a bit of writing. My problem is that I have some good ideas and start or do part of the story, then it stalls. At least I have an "Idea Doc" to keep them all sorted.

I'll join the club and relate that I've been ill. I was misdiagnosed by three doctors- Cleveland Clinic and University Hosp. You can't imagine how much cash this cost me, let alone suffering. I was told I had TMJ, a facial nerve causing pain in my face, ear and jaw. That doc refused to give me anything for pain. It was a '9.' Then I was told by an oral surgeon I had arthritis and fibromyalgia in my jaw. I wasn't able to eat anything that wasn't liquified. Thank Heaven's for the Bullit. It turned out to be an abscessed tooth and I'm still on antibiotics but the pain has settled down. Not looking forward to an extraction. YIKES!

I'll add my bit here. I am still on holiday in Italy at this moment. Some friends and I hired an apartment in Lazise, close to lake Garda, and although the weathermen promised us lots of rain, we have had, for the most part, glorious weather all week. A bit of rain this afternoon, but otherwise great. My friends are envying me because they tell my I have a tan. I can't say how, because I loathe sunbathing with a passion.
Tomorrow is our last full day, then on Sunday we have to leave by 10 am and get ourselves down to Verona airport for the easy jet flight home. 🙁
We went up a mountain in a cablecar yesterday (wow!) OnTuesday we went to Venice for the day. (Triple WOW!!!!)
Because we have wifi on tap here I can keep up to date with stuff, using my iPad, but sorry, no stories just yet! As I have the week off work next week too, maybe I will find time to find out what happens with Glenna's amazing and also somewhat shocking What-If prompt! There are a myriad ways that that one could go, Am I brave enough? So far then, for me all is good. Likely things will change, as they always do, but enjoying the beginnings of a thunderstorm outside now, so I am going to go and plant myself beside a window! Arrivederci!
