So.....
It's been a while.
Things are a little quiet around these parts and I would like to try and pick things up again. I may be peeing into the wind, but I have to try.
I know that many people haven't written for a while, and can't find the inclination to do so, and I figured 'How about a challenge?'. For the short Affair you only need to write between 300 — 1000 words, based on prompts comprising of 2 words and one colour. (You can use one or both of the words, but you must use the colour.)
So, how about it? Are you for the challenge? For those of us who haven't been around, I'm sure our boys have missed us. Well, maybe not Illya....
Anyway, you'll find everything you need to know below. There's no official time limit on it, but I was thinking of posting another prompt in a couple of weeks.
Have at it!

(Cross posted to LiveJournal)

 -Prompt Word 1 -  Beach

-Prompt Word 2 – Hold

-Prompt Colour -  Grey/Gray

Choose to use one of the prompt words, or to use both in your story (not forgetting the colour element), remembering to state which combination of prompts you are using.

Challenge Rules

-Your story can be built around one or both of the prompt words plus the colour. I.E.- Word 1/Colour, Word 2/Colour, or Word 1/Word 2/Colour.

-Word Count - must be between 300 and 1000.

-All stories should be headed with ‘Short Affair’ Challenge and your title.

-Please state at the top of your post which prompt combination you are using.

-Tags - please use short_affair, gen, gen-mature or het.

-Section VII is a Gen community, so stories should be appropriate, i.e. nothing explicit or overly-graphic. However, there is the Gen-Mature tag for anything containing violence, torture or mild Het. The Map Room should be used for Het stories, but again, nothing overly graphic.

This is still one of my favorite stories,

Summary: Illya is paired with a female partner for an unusual assignment, performing in a Shakespearean production. She's the expert on the Bard and is none to gentle in her opinions of Kuryakin's acting skills. It's a lusty interpretation of a gorgeous photo manip prompt by Avery11.

For those of you not familiar with PicFic, it's a weekly challenge to write a MFU story based upon or incorporating a photo prompt.

The first PicFic prompt of 2021 will post on February 9th

Here are the general rules of the challenge:

Your story is Due: to be determined, it may be 24 hours, 1 week, or anytime after the prompt is posted on a Tuesday.

Statistical stuff: Minimum 500 words, no maximum.

Subject Matter: Write a MFU story using the photo prompt. Your fic. can be specifically about the prompt, featured or just mentioned in your story. It's meant to inspire!

Posting here should fit into the GENeral concepts of the section7mfu community, contain nothing explicit and reflects the 1960's series in style and content, and featuring our brave men from U.N.C.L.E. (of course) It's okay to use characters from the Girl from U.N.C.L.E. as well as original characters, but Napoleon and/or Illya must be part of your story!

Remember
, Section VII is a GEN community.

That being said, there is a GEN-mature tag option for stories that contain more violence, torture, angst or very mild het. So if your story falls under one of these categories, please use the gen-mature tag.

Where to post:

Gen stories, gen-mature post in section7mfu

All other genres post in uncle_du_jour

Subject Header: Please include in the Subject Header: your Title, the phrase:'For Picfic Tuesday' and the original due date.

You must include the photo prompt with your story as a reference for you readers!

I've taken down an entry that was posted by one of our members.  It was a little too close to political commentary.  Humor aside, it came at the expense of someone else and, I hope we can always retain some sense of hopefulness here without casting stones at others.

Obviously, one's own personal page is for whatever suits or amuses the owner.  Here on Section VII, the final edit is up to me.  I don't like the idea of removing posts, and I did communicate the request that it be done by the author.  My primary concern is to maintain the ideals, and the morale of Section VII.

I hope everyone is contentedly sheltered in place.  We may be close to abandoning the restrictions and returning to a sort of normalcy, a nice thought to fuel our day.

Be well... wash your hands ;)

I have always liked The Round Table Affair and enjoyed writing Artie and Victoria for the story below. It’s part of my AU romance series about Illya and Faustina. The link takes you to A03.

I think we're all agreeing with Alynwa that a fair few of us are suffering from writer's block.  So February is going to be a break from challenges so we can rev up our writing mojo.

As always, Section VII is not just about writing challenges! You can post a non-challenge story that you've written any time!

If you're in a writing slump, why not rec one of your own stories or that of your favorite author to keep the home fires burning here in

A year or so ago we had a conversation about the muse, the lost muse and missing muse... you know what I mean.

I'm wondering if there's a way to jump start a muse search, perhaps track her down and talk some sense into the wayward sprite.

The poll we put up yesterday received some responses that indicated a lost muse is responsible for non-productivity where writing is concerned here in the MFU-niverse, and that a new challenge might do it for some of you.

A compelling challenge.

So, what constitutes a compelling challenge? We have weekly writing prompts here on Section VII, and admittedly a few of them have been here for a very long time.  So, the topic is open for something new and different to ignite and inspire you to write.  If you have a suggestion, please use the comments to post your ideas.  We want you to write, and we are open to new topics and prompts that will help you (all of us), to get back to the exploits of Solo and Kuryakin in a big way.

55 Years of MFU can't be wrong.  Right?

Challenge: The Short Affair

-Prompt Word 1 - Home

-Pompt Word 2 – Rainbow

-Prompt Colour – Blue

Author: mrua7

Title: “Best to humor”

Word count: Approx. 550

He fell hard, having been knocked backwards over a wooden rail fence. That sent him tumbling down around thirty feet until he came to a stop, having slammed into a large boulder.

His body remained still as his partner finished off the last of their attackers before hurtling over the fence, scrambling downwards to where Illya lay motionless.

Challenge: The Short Affair

-Prompt Word 1 - Sustain

-Prompt Word 2 Parade

-Prompt Colour White

Author: mrua7

Title: “In the nick of time”

Word count: Approx 785

It was hard for Solo to watch as a half-dozen prisoners dressed in tattered clothing were forced to parade in front of him. Among them was his partner who looked as white as a ghost and seemingly malnourished.

He was sure the Russian was being barely fed enough to sustain him, given Illya had a high metabolic rate made a minimum of food made it even more difficult for him.

The other prisoners were members of MI6, DGSE, and the CIA, so along with Kuryakin, THRUSH was digging for something; what that was, no one quite knew.
