This wonderful piece really resonates with my dark and pessimistic soul. Illya's point of view, and his acceptance of his life not being his own, feels just right to me (but then I tend to write him from a pessimistic side of things).

Thank you. It started quite differently and then I deleted it all and started again and this is how it emerged.
I feel a bit dark and pessimistic too - what is there to be optimistic about, these days? Totally disenfranchised, our lives aren't our own - who is in charge? I'd love to know... So, Illya's outlook seemed to make perfect sense.
