I've been sitting on this one for a while, but thought it would be a good long fic for the long weekend, if a bit sad. Pat Foley's Illya origin story - Conversion of a Heretic. As far as I've found it was only ever posted to her website, which is preserved on the Wayback Machine.

At the top of the page, there’s a warning that this is a work in progress and is unfinished. Is there more posted somewhere?
I’m not sure I want to start a story that will never be finished, no matter how good it might be.

As far as I can tell it’s a complete story in that it has a beginning, a middle, and an end with no loose threads that jump out to me. My guess is that it’s not quite up to the editing standards of the author’s final pieces, but it reads as fairly polished, imo.

Maybe, since the intro stated the story was set in the 1940s, the author intended it as the beginning of a series? I haven’t read it yet, but I’d guess it doesn’t start in the 40s and continue into the 60s or later.
