“You eat well in the kitchen, unlike the rest of us who are underfed, it keeps us under control. No matter what, we are always reliant upon them for food.  That is how the government controls the masses, keeping them hungry, yet giving them all the vodka they want...making them compliant workers.”

“Do not say such things Illya, they could get you in trouble with MGB.

“Ministry for State Security is hardly interested in what bespriorzi have to say.  We are the lowest of the low.”  His words were no longer shy.

Yep that's the development of our determined IK, thanks to a girl being nice to him, and showing him the 'ropes" so to speak.

It was tough finding a photo for this, needing a hand young enough, clenched powerfully. It was the loose sleeve that did it, illustrating the poor boy never really having clothes that fit right...wearing hand me downs.

"His words were no longer shy." I particularly like this line. Shows even more Illya's transformation from boyhood to manhood. He is now a man who knows what he believes and has the strength, the determination, and the courage to fight for it.

Thank you for getting that. I'm trying to show that he's growing and wising up at the same time. With the help of Natasha he's finding a different kind of courage as you say, and the strength and determination for stand up for what he believes. But at the same time, he knows how to 'play the game," and that makes him a survivor.
