The Randomness of life - Chapter 96: 'Alone' for 'A little Drabble do ya!'

A double drabble

Prompted by: Alone ~ by Edgar Allan Poe

From childhood's hour I have not been
As others were; I have not seen
As others saw; I could not bring
My passions from a common spring.
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow; I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone;
And all I loved, I loved alone.
Then- in my childhood, in the dawn
Of a most stormy life- was drawn
From every depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still:
From the torrent, or the fountain,
From the red cliff of the mountain,
From the sun that round me rolled
In its autumn tint of gold,
From the lightning in the sky
As it passed me flying by,
From the thunder and the storm,
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)

Of a demon in my view.

Kuryakin sat alone in the darkness, at times feeling like it was his only friend. He found comfort in it, yet hated it..

Since he'd been a child, after the war he felt abandoned, even when surrounded by people.

In the orphanage, no one cared...not until he'd met Natasha Asimov, but like all things meaningful in his life, that connection was short-lived, as she was sent away when she came of age to work like a slave for a privileged party member.*

Training for GRU, he had Valery Nemikoff as a friend...he disappeared, presumably to the blast furnaces at Sepakov, never seen or heard from again.**

Illya permitted himself fleeting moments of happiness, admiring the beauty of the world, though he kept his thoughts to himself, remaining painfully private. He shared nothing and had learned it brought only sadness to him, and pity from others.

Now he was in New York, assigned a new partner and one he'd heard of while at Survival School...Napoleon Solo.

"Would he measure up to this man's standards?" Partners were an annoyance to the Russian."Would this Americkanskii, meet his standards as well, or would he be just another demon to overcome?"

Only time would tell...     42851_600

Oh, absolutely lovely. The poem reflected the story so perfectly. I might be slightly biased of course, because I love Poe.
