"A hardened heart' ~for A Little Drabble Do Ya!

Illya sat on a park bench, though it was snowing. He wore a wool coat but it wasn’t really warm enough. He stayed, watching the large snowflakes drift down, covering him like a statue.

His face turned downward, his heart hardened at the near death of his partner.

“Time for revenge”…his old self growled to be free.

But then he heard it, a plaintive mewing beneath his feet. A lone kitten; he tucked it into his coat. Though it was shivering, it began to purr and that softened Kuryakin's heart.

“Better to find this little one a home.”

Illya smiled…

Oooh. So sweet. Illya was so close to losing himself to vengeance. One little soul in need was all he needed to divert him. Beautiful.

Lucky kitten. I love a good Kuryakin drabble and this one is at the top of my list. Well done.

Gotta love a man who loves cats. Well, this man anyway ;)

I stay away from stories that portray Illya as soft or mushy, but the bit of humanity that you portray in Illya is perfect for letting the reader see that there is a caring heart in our tough agent and it's good to let it show once in awhile. And you did it so nicely.

And it's canon, too! Remember in Alexander the Gtreater Affair when IK was the one who
, with some amount of emotion in his voice, suggested they help Alexander's parents in the mine?

Also rather cold-blooded in The Odd Man Affair, where he twisted the hand of Christopher Cary's Mr. Ecks and stabbed him in the stomach with his own knife, instead of just putting him to sleep. But both sides of his personality seem to fit together pretty well, I think.... He strongly believes in protecting the innocent, and to that end, he sometimes also believes in harsh ends for the bad guys and/or isn't bothered when they happen.

Kittens will do that to a person.

Aww, how adorable and precious. I love the fandom idea that Illya loves cats. They certainly can melt hateful hearts. Not that it isn't understandable for Illya to feel hateful when his partner is hurt, but yes, so much better for him to focus on and be comforted by a sweet little kitten.

The picture adds to the adorableness, too. :)

Oooh. That's one (two) episodes I haven't seen yet, since I'm uncomfortable with the bad guys tampering with age. But knowing there's cats in it has always made me want to break down and try it. A canon indication of Illya loving cats makes it all the more desirable.
