Question

"Your email address has been marked as unvalidated because we have been receiving errors messages from your mail server for at least one week. This indicates the address may no longer be functional. You can re-validate this email address or switch to a new email address to begin receiving notifications again."

The above statement started appearing the other day on the top of my screen.  Number one, I know I received notifications this week regarding comments.  I don't seem to have gotten any today, but it's not unusual for the notifications to show up hours after you guys have commented.

So my question is: Have any of you ever received this notification and acted on it?

It just seems to me that if this were legit, I would be sent a PM rather than have a banner on the top of my page screen.

I've never seen anything like that in all the years I've been using email. It's possible it might be part of a hacking scam.

Don't reply at all, instead I'd email your service like aol, gmail or whoever it is, and cut and paste the original message into your email to them see what they say. Better to err on the side of caution.

Haven't got anything like it so far.

I would not trust the message, and I certainly wouldn't click on it. I agree with mrua, that your best path forward is to contact your service provider, and also LJ support, to determine the authenticity of the statement. Good luck!

Looks like you've picked up a scammer in the comments 'Jessica Ruiz' when I hovered on the name Lj brought up an option to ban it in my journal - so I have.

Presumably you would get more options, but I would definitely block 'Jessica Ruiz' if I could.

You did the right thing querying the authenticity of your banner message - and I'm really pleased it was so easily resolved :0)
