Grateful thanks go to duckys_lady for acting as beta on this piece. It got away from me and went over 4000 words. I lose all belief in myself if a story goes to long for me. (4k words is not long to many, but for me it's epic.)

You need to venture into the 4000 word count more often cuz! Well thought out and well written... excellent descriptions and dialogue! Brava!

The 4000 words had nothing to with me. The story dictated where it wanted to go, LOL.

To paraphrasre my mother, you'll finish when you finish. These things come at heir own pace :-)

Let me rephrase... 'Don't fight the feeling!" When you're on a roll like that, let it keep going. You've definitely created a feeling in this story that something short couldn't have done justice.

That's why it got away from me. There were certain plot points which had to be put in, and I had to allow the story time to get to those points, so it definitely wouldn't have worked as a shorter piece. I'm just glad it worked out how I wanted it, and that it flowed well.

Did I have you fooled at the beginning, or did you realise early what was happening?

Yeah I figured out what was happening. I have a WIP with Napoleon turning traitor so there's a similar thought process, but different enough from what you did in your story. Eventually (like so many others) I'll finish it. lol!
Writing has just gotten away from me!
