That's ture, although I have a feeling I'm not going to be in a warm and fuzzy Xmas mood this year. Actually those feelings have diminished dramatically over the years. I go back to my original dream of when I worked retail (which sort of destroyed the Christmas feelings for me) of being on some tropical isle where they don't celebrate 'holidays' because every day is a holiday. Nice to have silly dreams, isn't it.

Sounds like you could channel some of Illya's dissatisfaction with the commercialization of the season...

Channel it...I lived it. All the joy of the season was sucked out of me. With the schedules I worked, I was lucky I got to see my family on Christmas eve...our tradition of going to my Aunts house. Always arrived well after the festivities were under way, and some people already going home. So things were winding down, and I just got there. Could barely stay awake sometimes, I was so tired..

Christmas day was with my parents and brother, just dinner and hanging out. But now they're all gone...Aunt too. Now going over my cousins by myself, I feel very disconnected. and lonely. That's why I could just as well do without it all at this point. Though right now being out of work might be making me feel more cynical and down than usual. Who knows, I may perk up a little as the holiday approches. I know last year I wrote a fair few MFU holiday stories, I guess trying to get myself into the spirit.

I know Christmas isn't just about gift giving, but for once I'd like to be able to join in and be included in that part of the holiday. Everyone knows I'm sort of broke so they don't give me gifts because they know I'm embarassed that I can't reciprocate. Sort of complicated...
