The Great Episode Challenge for August, 2015

Challenge #1:

In Season One’s “The King of Knaves Affair,” Illya and Napoleon travel to UNCLE’s Rome office to continue their mission. That evening, Napoleon is surprised to see Venetia the receptionist belly dancing at the Casa Trufare. Moments later, Illya shows up with Mr. Venerdi’s assistant, Gemma Lusso, posing as his wife. When Napoleon mentions to Gemma how surprised he is to see Venetia earning extra money, he is told she is gathering extra information.

The questions are: Do you think any of the New York support staff were ever placed in the field? If not, why not?

Challenge #2:

In Season Two’s “The Indian Affairs Affair,” Napoleon mentions that three years earlier in Morocco, he used a similar tactic to LC Carson’s: giving the couriers fake packages while he carried the real package out himself.

The questions are: What was his mission? Was he still a solo (pun intended) operative or had he been partnered with the Russian?

MFU, as we all know, was created at a time when most television series aired “stand alone” episodes that, unlike today’s concept of “story arcs,” would present issues and/or situations that were never addressed or resolved. I think answering those questions forms the foundation for most fan fiction written.

The challenge is to choose one of the episodes and present a story that answers the question raised. If you have already written a story that you think best answers that question, by all means, please repost it.

As always, there are rules and these are the GEC’s:

  1. The story must be minimally 500 words long. There is no maximum length.

  2. Please remember that Section VII is a Gen and Gen-mature site and stories published here must fall into those categories. If enough interest is shown for a slash version of this challenge, it will be placed in a community that celebrates that version of MFU.

  3. The Subject line should include the phrase “Great Episode Challenge,” the date, and the story’s title. The episode title and the question being answered should be included in the body of the post at the top.

  4. Please use the tag “Great Episode Challenge.”

  5. The Challenge will post on the first Thursday of the month and stories will post on the third Thursday. If you miss the posting date, no worries; post when you can making sure you follow Rule 3.

Happy writing!
