Round Table - The Re-Collectors Affair

I watched that episode yesterday, considering I had a lot of time on my hands being stuck inside waiting for the snow to melt.  I sort of like this episode, primarily because IK looks amazing and has so many good scenes.  He also has some incredibly confusing lines.
When speaking to Mr. Waverly and subsequently suggesting he go and help his partner, only to be told no, Illya replies that Napoleon might get a 'sick headache'.  What?  I have never understood why he said that.  Anyone?
When Napoleon remarks about how competent the Frenchwoman is, Illya's response: Well, an attractive woman should be much more than just competent.''  And he prefaces that statement with something about it being distressing to see a woman who is merely competent.  All of it is very strange.  I'm sure there's more wacky dialogue out there.  Does anyone have favorites?

I think that was just Illya's way of saying that he's afraid Napoleon will get hurt.

When I hear an odd line of dialogue like that, I consider that ep had footage left on the cutting room floor. Another possibility could be the writer/director had a "private joke" he was passing along.

The one scene where Napoleon tells Illya "and thank your mother for the chicken soup" may be one where an insiders joke was being passed along. We will never know.

BTW, my favorite scene from "Recollectors"is the one in which IK grabs the cane and it fires, killing the bad guy. The cane kicks hard enough to startle David, as if he wasn't expecting such a kick. Priceless! The scene where IK's on the couch and the innocent pokes her head up when NS walks into the room is also nice.

See my comment below: The "thank your mother for the chicken soup" line was indeed an insider joke, not between the two characters in the show, but between the episode writer and the production staff of the show.

Realize that some of the dialog in MFU are writer "in-jokes".

Someone mentioned a few weeks' ago the "thank your mother for the chicken soup" line of Napoleon's. That's a perfect example. It was a known catch-phrase of the particular writer of that episode. It really had no inherent meaning within the episode itself. It was just a means to flag the identity of the writer and give a little chuckle to those in-the-know.

I was the person who brought up Solo's line about the chicken soup and St.Crispens wrote about it being an inside joke. (There was a conversation on the Russian "COUSIN" website and they took it as canon that Illya's mother was living at that time.)

Would you happen to know if that inside joke/catchphrase info was documented in an article or book? I'd really like to know.

The writer is Harlan Ellison and if you look up commentary type stuff he wrote as intros to his books, you'll see he uses the phrase often. I will say it is not a complimentary remark as he tends to use it when he is pissed off about not getting his due with regard to the quality of stuff he has written.
