... Chances are you aren't doing any Father's Day activities, or have taken a break; perhaps you haven't even started the day yet.  I know for me it's always a little melancholic to encounter Mother's Day and Father's Day; both of my parents are gone, so the day seems a bit empty.

I'll be heading to a family thing after church, since there are a few fathers in the crowd and my cousin wants to honor them.  She and her sister lost their father last year, so I imagine they'll be a bit weepy when no one is looking.

... But since we're here, the topic is going to turn to UNCLE, which is not exactly the same as talking about one's father, but men are definitely our focus.

Napoleon and Illya... are they father material?  I know there are stories out there that attest to their excellent skills as a parent, the AU version of our guys.  Do you think that's possible, to be both super spy and super dad?

I don't know.  I think it might be a stretch, but then again, people have hidden capabilities that manifest when the situation demands it.  What sort of fathers do you think they might be?

If you have time and are interested in the topic, feel free to comment, or perhaps recommend a story that features one or both of them as a new or experienced father.

I suppose we could title this topic The Dads from UNCLE.

Perhaps I'm inspired by the post [livejournal.com profile] ssclassof56 put up yesterday for the What's My Line? Challenge. You really need to check that out and get ready to write.  I'm so bummed that we can't actually do the musical, talk about a good time.
Anyway, I got here in a roundabout way, considering my jam preferences for various food situations.  I recently found some boysenberry jam on walmart.com, something I've been looking for but couldn't find here in Kentucky.  Boysenberries are my all time favorite, something that comes from having grown up going to Knott's Berry Farm, where boysenberry is king.  If you've been there (it's currently an amusement park that, in Orange County, is second only to Disneyland), then you've had something made from boysenberries. At least I hope so.
Okay, I digress...
I made some biscuits this morning so I could indulge in the boysenberry jam, which made me think about my preferences for other foods that get a dollop of something.
Banana Bread needs strawberry jam.
Blueberry muffins... more blueberry, so I made blueberry jam.  I also like a blueberry sauce on pineapple sherbert.
Cornbread muffins, honey butter.
It's a list, my list of preferences.
And that, my friends, reminded me of all of the accounts of Illya Kuryakin putting strawberry jam in his tea.  I know it's strictly a fanfic thing, because I don't think we ever see Illya drinking tea.  But we know he would have preferred it, at least in the beginning.
So, what other preferences do we see or read concerning Napoleon and Illya? What are the little details about their behavior that had, perhaps, small beginnings but then grew into Fanon, that set of absolutes attributed to the writers of MFU fan fiction?
What are those Little Things that make us love these guys?

[livejournal.com profile] leethet has a conversation going on HERE regarding the backgrounds of the agents of the U.N.C.L.E.  That made me wonder about how the characters were developed, or the lack of development, in the series itself.

This is a little off the beaten path, so to speak, but perhaps worth discussing as it pertains to our MFU-niverse.
In fan fiction, there's a lot of space given to how Illya is treated, the suspicions about his loyalty to UNCLE, the possibility that he's really still just a Soviet spy.  And when I say a lot, I mean a plethora of stories that suggest Illya is victimized for his nationality on a pretty regular basis.
And yet...

I do realize that some of you in other parts of the world have already had a Tuesday Morning, so to you... Good Afternoon or Good Evening.
I want to remind everyone of some things still going on and open for participation.
A few days ago I opened up a thread for an Impromptu Challenge, based on a photo of DMc/Illya, originally posted by jantojones. You can find the prompt HERE
We started a conversation about the idea of Unconscious Plagiarism, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] threecee It's an interesting topic that has probably occurred to most writers, perhaps been noticed by all of us who read.  The post is HERE

And we cannot forget that the Spring Round Robin is ongoing.  If you've missed it or need to catch up, here's the story so far:

1315527027_2.jpgI took a peek at a post I did four years ago regarding The Girl from UNCLE.  The show was a bomb, and yet we revere the two characters that originated there.
What are you thoughts? Certainly fan fiction has made April Dancer a much more interesting person than the show gave us, and hers and Mark Slate's interaction with Solo and Kuryakin is a given, showing up often.

Chime in on the show that made us all cry uncle.

Here is what I think the episodes are in the video. The ones I missed are driving me crazy. I tried Lisa’s Framecap Library but still had no luck.

This video has clips from possibly all of the episodes, it's hard to say at first glance.  What I'm wondering is if anyone can pinpoint what episodes, and in what order?
If you're up for it, post your answers (as many as you can), with the round table tag, and your user I.D.
Now, if you're really looking for something to do, choose one of these clips and write a short story or drabble, based on it, either from the episode or not.  Be inspired by what you see rather than what you know. Again, tag it round table along with your user I.D.

IT's been a while since we had a Round Table discussion, and since not much else is going on I thought today would work for a review of Foxes and Hounds and all of the sexual tension... whatever we choose to call it.

This scene has always struck me as being slightly flirtatious.  It is groundbreaking for the era, and I always see Illya being attracted to this lovely African American woman.  Was it staged for that purpose, or did David McCallum just play it that way? Or does anyone else see it?

Okay, another rainy day where I am.  I've taken the day off, anticipating a busy week and possibly another round of lawn mowing with my new, Green Powered (that means me), lawn mower.
Do you think Napoleon and Illya would be good at keeping a yard nice and tidy?  I know we have Illya the pool boy, Illya the prison ditch digger, and Illya the random dirty job guy.  What about Napoleon?
[Poll #2080476]

Not like the iconic song, Rainy Days and Mondays, a Sunday version can be comforting and lazy.  I still need to get myself to church in the rain this morning, but the rest of the day will be self-indulgent and lazy.  The house needs cleaning, but it is doubtful I'll take my only day off to do that job.
So, what do our agents do on the occasional Sunday that doesn't find them battling crime on some distant shore?  There have been loads of stories and scenarios, but what do you think?
Does Napoleon sneak into a church every once in a while, just to insure that his soul isn't totally mired in the muck of what his job often entails?
Perhaps Illya retreats into a dark, brooding place where he can luxuriate in the depths of his discontent and worrisome memories.
Real men in a dangerous, sometimes deadly profession.  How does Saving the World on a regular basis impact the serenity of a Sunday morning in New York City?
[identity profile] glennagirl.livejournal.com
I find this very curious: Illya gets into a lot of odd situations, not the least of which is being stripped down to his boxers occasionally. What's odd is that when he should be wearing shorts, like as a pool boy or a tennis instructor, he has on long trousers.  The directors/writers... whoever... didn't think it was too much leg when he was reduced to his skivvies in the Foreign Legion Affair or The Alexander the Greater Affair, but for the pool boy/tennis guy role they put him in long pants.
I just find it odd, not earth shattering by any means, but odd.  We must investigate, look closely at the evidence ... haha.  I don't think we'll mind too much taking a closer look.
Feel free to chime in.

So, Clara dumps Napoleon because he's a spy and she can't be bothered with the danger, the absences, etc... Isn't that what we all have been thinking?
So, isn't it odd that she has enough  spy savvy to track down Napoleon in Italy in order to ... Oh, wait!  She needs a spy.  Ironic is one word for it, but truthfully, she's involved in this entirely shady intrigue scenario back home in Terbuf.
Why do you think Napoleon and Clara couldn't make a go of it?  Was it really the spy business that created the riff, or is she just that fickle?
What do you think?  I'm pretty sure Illya is suspicious.

Last week we had a rousing conversation concerning Illya and his women, and his attitude towards them.  Out of that came a comment from vmccooley that had a promise of more comments as we explore what each of us perceives as the depth of the relationship between Solo and Kuryakin.
For the sake of a free exchange, I think we must make this forum truly open; that is to say, whatever your viewpoint on this it is welcome as part of the conversation.  I realize the fans of MFU range from those who hold to the series' presentation of the men as purely professional tinged with a solid friendship, while others have taken it to a romantic relationship.  This is the day to tell us how you got there and why it holds your imagination and attention as a writer and/or reader.
So, what do you think? Just what are the depths of devotion between Napoleon and Illya?

This post is also on Dreamwidth, and considering the potential comments on this subject I think we would do well to hold our conversation over there.  You can follow this link: DWS7

We love Illya, and we all, most of us, have that secret dream of being the woman he desires.  But what exactly would that take?  The quote from The Recollector's Affair (photo credit Lisa's Framecap Library), makes us wonder just how attractive and how much beyond competent the Russian is talking about.  He obviously thinks Lisa Donato qualifies because there's some hanky panky going on between the two.  So, is he so picky that only a handful of women can fit into his ideal image? Is that why he so seldom has the affairs we expect from his friend Napoleon? Which makes us wonder, is Napoleon so active (ahem...), because of his standards or is he just the uber chick magnet who gets too many offers to refuse?
What do you think?

"Well, an attractive woman should be more than just competent."
