So, Clara dumps Napoleon because he's a spy and she can't be bothered with the danger, the absences, etc... Isn't that what we all have been thinking?
So, isn't it odd that she has enough  spy savvy to track down Napoleon in Italy in order to ... Oh, wait!  She needs a spy.  Ironic is one word for it, but truthfully, she's involved in this entirely shady intrigue scenario back home in Terbuf.
Why do you think Napoleon and Clara couldn't make a go of it?  Was it really the spy business that created the riff, or is she just that fickle?
What do you think?  I'm pretty sure Illya is suspicious.

Perhaps she wants to have her cake and eat it. She's happy enough with his being a spy when it serves her purpose, but unwilling to deal with the long absences and potential trouble that could also arise. I think she decided to dump him because she couldn't be bothered having to wait around for him to come back from missions...and yet she is not above making use of him when she needs help, knowing that he probably still loves her and would not refuse to help.

She's a user and she knows how to manipulate men. I believe Napoleon truly did love her, but she only loved I'm for as much as he was useful. I'm afraid I took an instant dislike of Clara.

One thing that always puzzled me was the way she found Napoleon. He asked how she knew he was in Italy. She replied that she telephoned his apartment in New York and was told he was vacationing in Italy. Security wise, I find that a bit lax.

We never did find out what happened when the corrupt government was overthrown. A sudden power vacuum isn't going to automatically  be replaced by a democracy. Civil war, war with neighboring countries, and a new, worse dictator all seem likely. An organization that planned the end of the military regime could profit. IF there was an international organization so evil.

We also know that Napoleon seems especially attracted to a certain type of woman (no beyond just "breathing"). I'm thinking of Angelique, Serena, Narcisis, etc. Maybe Clara dumped Napoleon because it was too hard to hide HER career from him and, at the time, he wasn't all that useful to her employer.

I try to write occasionally. I have too many plot bunnies and I can't get them to stop breeding while I capture on paper.
