The Great Episode Challenge for March 5, 2015
I was watching “The Prince of Darkness Affair” in which Doctor Karmasi had developed a “thermal prism” that, once launched into orbit, would enable THRUSH, through him, to control the world and it made me wonder: What is the agreement UNCLE has with its member nations regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction? Does the organization try to maintain the balance of power by spreading the technology around or does UNCLE warehouse all that potentially deadly material in some type of super – storehouse?
Ah, “The Vulcan Affair” raises quite a few questions that were never addressed during the series. However, the one I am posing for this challenge is: What did Napoleon say to Elaine Bender and/or her husband that made her, at her husband’s insistence, accompany Napoleon to see her old college sweetheart, Andrew Vulcan and assist the man from UNCLE with his mission? She was, by her own admission, a happily married housewife, mother of two with no flights of fancy yet she takes off with a stranger to prevent an assassination. She was not an Innocent; she was not swept up into Illya and Napoleon’s circumstances. She was recruited for a specific purpose. What was the carrot held out to her?
The Great Episode Challenge, once a month, will look at two episodes that never provided a satisfactory explanation and/or resolution regarding a scene, a character’s motivation or something similar. The challenge is to choose one of the episodes and present a story that answers the question raised. If you have already written a story that you think best answers that question, by all means, please repost it.
As always, there are rules and these are the GEC’s:
The story must be minimally 500 words long. There is no maximum length.
Please remember that Section VII is a Gen, Gen-mature site and stories published here must fall into those categories. If enough interest is shown for a slash version of this challenge, it will be placed in a community that celebrates that version of MFU.
The Subject line should include the phrase “Great Episode Challenge,” the date, and the story’s title. The episode title and the question being answered should be included in the body of the post at the top.
Please use the tag “Great Episode Challenge.”
The Challenge will post on the first Thursday of the month and stories will post on the third Thursday. If you miss the posting date, no worries; post when you can making sure you follow Rule 3.
Posting will begin Thursday, March 19th. Happy writing!
