What's My line? Prompt for March 26th

I'm filling in for Glennagirl today  but, "there's no use in trying," to avoid joining in this 'What's My Line Challenge.'

Posting begins Thursday March 26th and runs through Friday (or whenever you can get your story finished, we're not too picky). Try to make it at least 500 words and suitable for all to read here on Section VII using the prompt 'there's no use in trying.'
