He felt a sharp pain in the back of his head and as if in slow motion, his near unconscious drift to the ground made him look as if he were a wet noodle.
When he awoke there was nothing but darkness, he couldn’t see at all. Was it because it was the dead of night, or was something very wrong with his eyesight? His hand went to his head, and gingerly touching his scalp; his fingers came back sticky with what he presumed was blood.
Checking his person, he discovered his gun was missing as was his wallet, but somehow his communicator pen was left in his inside breast pocket.
He fumbled as he assembled it. “Channel D- emergency.”
“What is the nature of the emergency?” A woman answered.
“I was attacked, unconscious. When I came to I was... am unable to see. Is it nighttime?
“Yes it is and very cloudy. Where were you when this happened?”
“An alleyway, no lights here I imagine.”
“We have a lock on your signal, sit tight. An agent is coming to get you. He’s only two blocks away.”
“Thank you, and trust me in my current state I have no plans to move. Out.” He ended the transmission but left the communicator open so his rescuer could maintain the homing signal.
He had no idea as to the passage of time, but cocked his head to one side when he heard footsteps.”
“Hello, it’s Mark Slate. I’m here to help you mate.”
“Here Mark!” He called out.”Follow my voice.”
The light from the Brit’s flashlight hurt his eyes for a moment. “Well that is good news; I can see the light from your torch.”
Mark zeroed in on the Russian who was laying on the ground in the pitch black alleyway, seeing the blond head covered in blood.
“Well look at you. What happened.”
“That is part of the problem Mark; I do not know.”
“Okay guv, let’s head to my car and get you to headquarters for some medical attention right quick. Alley oop...errr no pun intended,” Mark helped Kuryakin to his feet with a grunt.
“Not necessary, I thought I had lost my sight but it is fine. Mark do you see my gun and wallet anywhere? They are missing.”
“Wait a tick, let me look.” Slate shone the light around and sure enough he found the missing wallet and Special, as well as a body, a very dead body.
“Looks like you got the man who got you Illya.”
“I do not remember that at all,” Kuryakin paused, resisting the urge to scratch his head.
“Hmmm, maybe I should get that medical attention after all.”
“Never thought I’d hear you say that Illya.”
Kuryakin flashed him one of those looks,
“Hey don’t pull that on me mate,” Mark laughed,” I’m not the enemy, remember.”
“That is part of the problem at the moment, as there are things I do not remember. That is what I find distressing. Please do not let Napoleon know what happened, as he will think I let this...dead man get the drop on me.”
“Don’t worry mate, my lips are sealed.”
Mark knew better than to say anything to Solo, as the wrath of Kuryakin was truly a frightening thing to behold...
