The prompt:
“I’m telling you Napoleon, you can’t go wrong,” George Dennell went straight to the point.
Kuryakin was standing between the two men merely listening in, feeling rather bemused at what he was hearing.
“George, old pal. This sounds almost too good to be true,” Napoleon smiled.
“I’m not lying Napoleon. I swear they’re triplets...honest to goodness identical triplets. They’re blonde with big blue eyes that’ll melt your heart. Hey Illya how about you? Interested?”
“No thank you George. I do not like being outnumbered even in the most pleasant of situations.” Kuryakin begged off, having heard more than enough. His partner was on his own if he took George up on his offer; it was at his own peril.
“Look Napoleon, just go to this address at eight o’clock tonight and I guarantee you’ll be in for a real surprise,” he held out a folded piece of paper. “I can’t make it, that’s why I figured a ladies man like you would appreciate the situation...if you know what I mean?” Dennel smiled, and gave him a knowing wink.
Solo reached out and took it, quickly tucking it into his breast pocket.
“Thanks Napoleon you’re a real pal. I’ll let them know you’ll be coming, so they’ll expect you.”
The two men went their separate ways; Napoleon sauntered back to the office he shared with the Russian and flopped down in his desk chair, looking quite satisfied with himself.
“Yep, going to be a hot time in the old town tonight tovarisch,” Napoleon leaned back with his hands clasped behind his head. “Are you sure you don’t want to join me?”
“Absolutely not. It is your fantasy to be with triplets not mine. To me this whole situation seems rather suspect and were it not for the fact that it involves George, I would think it was some sort of trap.”
“Illya sometimes you’re even a bit too paranoid for me,” Napoleon snickered. He looked at his watch, deciding he should go home to shower and change. “By the way, you wouldn’t be able to…”
Without waiting for him to finish, Illya drew his money clip from his pocket and held it out.
“I will add it to your tab.”
“Thanks, you’re a pal and I will pay you back.” Napoleon quickly counted the money, deeming it was enough for what he needed and handed the money clip back to Kuryakin.
“Keep it. I will expect it returned to me containing the same amount of money that was in it. And be careful as it is an exploding money clip.”
“Oh, okay.” Napoleon carefully tucked it in his pocket as he recalled the last time he disbelieved his partner about it being an explosive money clip.
“You know Illya you’d be perfect for the part of Ebenezer Scrooge in this year’s Christmas party skit.”
“Me, Ebenezer Scrooge? I beg to differ Napoleon. If I were Scrooge I would not have loaned you the money. But if I as Scrooge I broke character and did loan you money, then I would charge you interest on the loan. I can do that if you prefer, but seeing as how you owe me a fair amount of money already, you would never get out of your indebtedness to me.”
Napoleon suddenly handed Illya back his money, folded neatly in the clip. “ You know what tovarisch, I think I’ve changed my mind.”
“Suit yourself,” Illya didn’t even look up and tucked the money clip back into his pocket.
.
The next morning Napoleon appeared in the office earlier than usual. He walked past his partner and sat at his own desk without saying a word.
“Do not tell me,” Illya broke the silence.” Last night did not go as planned?”
Solo slowly turned, staring at his partner. “That is an understatement if ever I heard one. I’m going to kill George Dennell.”
Illya was taken aback at that statement.”Why, pray tell?”
“Oh they were triplets all right, four year old little girls to be precise. The mother is George’s cousin and he backed out of baby sitting. It was not the night I expected at all. He really suckered me into it.”
Kuryakin tried not to smile. He could have rubbed it in and said ‘I told you so’, but instead he tried to be positive,”Look on the bright side, it was a cheap date after all.”
“Whoopee,” Napoleon sighed. “Though I have to admit, the kids were adorable. I wouldn’t mind having one or two myself one day. It might be nice to be a dad.”
“This after having to change diapers and put three babies to bed, not bad.”
“Well for one they were potty trained and once I started telling them a story about a grouchy golden bear from Russia, they were like putty in my hands. The parents even asked me if I’d help out again sometime.”
Nothing Solo said surprised his partner. Napoleon had a way with ladies no matter what their age. Now the story about the bear, he would have liked to have heard that bit. “And did you say yes?” Illya finally asked.
“Hell no! So do you know where George is today; I want to give him a piece of my mind.”
“Yes I do.”
“And that is…?”
“He left for vacation to the Virgin Islands, last night.”
“Last night?”
“Yes Napoleon, last night. I tried to tell you this was all very suspect.”
“You did at that. Illya, keep reminding me of these things will you?”
“Next time my friend, maybe you will listen?”
“I guarantee you, that I will.”
Kuryakin nodded his acceptance but deep down inside he suspected Napoleon wouldn’t; he had a one track mind when it came to the female of the species...adult ones that is.

Date: 2016-06-21 06:40 pm (UTC)Indeed, Napoleon would make a success of such a situation. I only wish I could have heard the story about the grouchy golden bear from Russia.
(Actually, I thought they were going to be Siamese kittens!)
