Title: “Kite flying, among other things”
Word count: Approximately 450
It was captivating as the triangular red kite floated in the air, it had a silver ribbon for its tail that fluttered and undulated as it danced gracefully in the wind.
Illya Kuryakin, dressed in a pair of dungarees, sneakers and a white tee shirt, stood there with a pair of large sunglasses perched on his nose as he kept the kite aloft.
That was the signal for his contact...a red kite with a white lightning bolt on it, and a silver tail. There were no others like it among the dozens that dotted the sky.
He watched out of the corner of his eye as a pretty blonde woman approached him, holding an identical kite in her hands. She was dressed in a short yellow skirt and a floral blouse with a daisy pattern, white go-go boots and a matching white hat...not exactly an outfit suited for flying kites in a park.
“Hello there,” she smiled. “It’s a small world isn’t it, you and I having identical kites.”
Illya let his sunglasses slip down his nose. “Ah but your tail is gold and mine is silver.” He answered her with the proper passwords.
“I was hoping you’d help me get my kite aloft,” she gave the correct response.
“Hmm, I can do that. Here take mine and let me check to see if yours is all right to fly.”
The exchange was made.
“Too bad,” he said after pretending to examine her kite.” It has a small tear, so it will not fly properly.”
“Oh, that makes me sad,” she pouted.
She was pretty and those lips were quite inviting, but not today. He knew she was Section III and could easily find out who she was later on.
“We must not have a pretty thing like you be sad. Keep my kite," he touched the tip of her nose with his finger tip.
“Why thank you, what a kind man you are.”
“Among other things,” Illya winked at her before he turned to leave with the golden tailed kite. He stopped, turning facing her again.
“Maybe we can meet again sometime and fly our kites,” he gave her a little smile, one that hinted of other things that could happen.
“Among other things,” she smiled back at him.
“Precisely,” he nodded, looking directly into her eyes. His blue eyes instantly melted her heart.
With that he disappeared down the path and was gone, but not forgotten.
The girl smiled, almost hugging herself thinking Illya Kuryakin had made a pass at her.
