Word Count: Approx. 360
“The truck! There it goes, come on," Illya yelled to his partner as he took off in a dead run down the sidewalk. Napoleon was startled into action by the urgency in Kuryakin’s voice.
Illya turned his head and shouted. “It’s turned the corner up ahead, to the right. Hurry up, Napoleon, we’ve got to catch it before it goes onto the freeway.”
As they rounded the corner Solo, not seeing the vehicle in question, shouted back, “What color is it?” There were several trucks up ahead.
“It’s white, of course,” Illya called back. Napoleon heard the sarcasm and wondered how he was expected to know this bit of information. He didn’t even know why they were chasing the aforementioned truck in the first place.
After two more blocks, Illya picked up speed and the truck turned another corner. He yelled again, “Hurry up, slow-poke! We’re going to lose it. Let’s go down this alley and see if we can cut it off.”
I must be out of shape, Solo thought. Perhaps I’d better start doing laps in the gym every morning.
Illya was thinking the same thing about his partner as he pulled far out in front of him.
“You go on ahead, I’ll back you up,” the now winded CEA gasped. As he turned into the alley he could see Illya’s backside vaulting over a wooden fence at the end. Scrambling atop a dumpster to make his own jump, Napoleon saw the Russian dart out in front of the white truck in question and wave his hands to make it stop.
Napoleon leapt over the fence and hugged the side of a building to creep up on their objective, now parked safely off the road.
Illya was chatting with the driver as Solo stealthily came up from behind, weapon raised.
“Whoa, partner… “ Illya snorted, “what are you doing?”
The truck driver looked a bit squeamish as he handed the blond two small packages in exchange for a dollar bill. As the driver pulled the truck back out into traffic, Kuryakin thanked him and turned to Napoleon, shaking his head. “Put your gun away. Would you rather shoot your ice cream bar or eat it?”
