Forgetting

He wanders the halls,

Picking insistently at the edges of the pale pink wallpaper,

Looking in vain for shiny gray metal and flashing lights.

They were there a minute ago.

He stands before the door,

Waiting for the whooshing sound,

Waiting for the magic to happen, for the door to slide open.

This door has a knob. He waits a long time.

He has a visitor,

A dark-haired man with warm brown eyes.

They sit in the garden, longing for springtime, bundled against winter's chill.

The man tells fine stories.

Alexander knows there is something he should remember.

[livejournal.com profile] avirra has a series of drabbles running over on fanfiction.net titled Is There A Russian Word For Drabble?  I don't know the answer to the question, but this one gave me a chuckle this morning, so I asked her if I could post it here on [livejournal.com profile] section7mfu

"So. Are you as bored as I am?"

"Not quite."

"How can you tell?"

"I am not quite bored enough to ask how bored you are."

"Great. Stuck with a smart-alecky Russian a hundred miles from nowhere."

"I think we are far closer to nowhere than that."

"You may have a point. Pretty desolate around here."

"If you are a fan of desolate, then yes. Pretty."

"You know what I mean."

"Rarely, but I have grown adept at faking it."
