Title: Different kinds of hunger

Word count: approximately 950

Kuryakin was feeling more than queasy now as his stomach had a sharp pain in it. He hadn’t eaten in nearly two days and given his higher metabolism that was going to cause him a problem. It wouldn’t be soon before his body would begin shutting down, lacking the energy to continue the assigned task.

Granted it was a task that he was being unwillingly put to by his captors. Digging a ditch in the hot noonday sun was taking its toll as well, burning Illya’s skin a bright shade of pink, though at least the straw hat he had been given covered his face, it was his arms and chest that were exposed.

“See, people think it's about using the wrong fork or wine glass, but really, that's not it at all. Don't get me wrong, that can be important, but really it's a question of attitude. You have to know beyond all doubt that whatever fork you choose to use is self-evidently the right one, simply because you chose to use it.”

Napoleon's voice swims through his head as he struggles to get a grip on the chains to pull himself up and take the strain off his arms, if only for a second. It is no use, the cold metal slips through numb fingers as though it were made of air.

When Illya had failed to turn up at their rendezvous, after the conclusion of their latest assignment, Napoleon had given him an hour before he went looking. I hadn’t taken long to find the missing man. He was still in the building he was supposed to have taken the THRUSH research files from. It had been discovered that the Hierarchy were developing a new type of weapon and U.N.C.L.E. needed to know how to combat it. Napoleon located his partner, about to be interrogated, in the basement. He was hanging by his wrists from the pipes, and was stripped to the waist.
