Silver Bells
Silver Bells
It's Christmas time
In the city...

The singing had turned to humming by the time Napoleon reached the door to his shared office.

"Illya, I think you'd… Oh, hello." The hello had a certain bouyancy to it as Napoleon took in the sight of his partner dancing with April.

"Hi Napoleon.  Illya was just teaching me a little move for the party."

"Yes, well I can see a move is involved all right." He winked, causing Illya to roll his eyes.

April blushed.

"Oh, we're just…'

Illya stepped back from the embrace.

"Dancing."

Napoleon's smile disagreed.

Title: The season of giving

Napoleon Solo walked along the sidewalk with a spring in his step. He’d decided to stop and have lunch at one of the local mom and pop eateries on the way to Headquarters. After lunch, tather than taking another taxi, he hoofed the last few blocks even though it was cold. The fresh air, well as fresh as it could get in the city, felt good.

There was nothing pressing at work requiring his presence that morning; the first item on his afternoon agenda was the weekly briefing with Mr. Waverly. Afterwards he had his own meetings with his Section II agents; being CEA, it was one of his duties. Once he was finished, he was a free man for the rest of the night.

Napoleon slowly lowered the fork full of steak back to the plate and glared at Illya.

“It’s what?”

“I don’t see what your problem is with it,” the Russian replied, continuing to shovel the meat into his mouth. “You’ve eaten such things, and worse, while on assignment.”

“We’re not on assignment,” Solo countered. “When you invited me out for traditional Russian food, I didn’t expect this.”

“It’s eaten all the time in Siberia,” Illya told him. “It’s used the same way you use cows.”

“I know that,” Napoleon practically wailed. “But it just isn’t right to eat reindeer around Christmas."

Continued from Part 1. Also relates to events here.

Illya joined Faustina in the elevator and fumed silently.

“Welcome back, Faustina. Thank you, Illya. How was Hong Kong? The Chinese turned the water off again. Sounds dreadful. At least THRUSH was just as uncomfortable as we were.”

Her imitation of him failed to elicit even the ghost of a smile. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

A hail of bullets struck the figures huddled in the door. “Kill them!” the THRUSH commander bellowed. “Kill them all!”

“Uh, sir.....?” The brightest of his minions edged forwards, kicking out at the remains of the bodies.....a corncob pipe, a button, several pieces of coal and a whole lot of snow. “Sir, I think these were decoys.”

The commander glared, as though the very notion offended him, then squinted further into the house. “That's no decoy,” he declared, running towards the figure half crouched behind a sofa, dressed in a dapper suit and holding an UNCLE special. “Kill him!”

Unfortunately this figure too dissolved into snow...leaving behind a not-so-innocent-looking device which began to tick.

“Is it too late to talk about defecting?” the intelligent minion asked plaintively, as the gas started pouring from the device, knocking the THRUSH men out.

As the gas cleared, Napoleon sauntered out of the hiding spot, surveying the unconscious prisoners with a sense of satisfaction, while Illya retrieved his gun. “And that's how you take down five armed men with only a gas grenade.”

“Mmmm. I look forward to seeing how you explain this escapade in your report without saying 'We built snowmen'.”
