((Went slightly over; sorry about that...))

It didn’t take too long for them to get the necessary equipment they needed, but as they headed to the building to search for the underground path, Napoleon’s thoughts turned to the possibilities of what could happen if they were unsuccessful.

Illya’s description of it as an “international incident” was a vast understatement, and Illya had known it; it had every possibility of escalating into war between the West and the Eastern Bloc.

The chill that Napoleon was feeling was nothing new; they had come close to war before—he and Illya had both been appropriately alarmed at the Cuban Missile Crisis back in ’62. For a horrible while, it had seemed as though the two partners were about to be thrust upon opposite sides, helpless to do anything other than keep THRUSH from making the situation worse.

They had survived ’62. And Napoleon knew they would have to find a way to survive this, too—the alternative was… unthinkable.

He was brought back to the present by Illya speaking to Valeriya.

“For your own safety, it is best if you stay out here while Napoleon and I attempt to find that underground room.”

She protested, naturally, but Illya was insistent. At last, she seemed to relent, and Illya turned to Napoleon with a nod. The American cast a quick glance back at her as they headed onwards.

“Do you think she’ll stay there?”

“For her own sake, I hope so,” Illya replied.

The thought was soon pushed from their minds; they had work to do inside.

Monday is once again upon us, so that must mean it is Short Affair Prompt Day. You know the drill by now. One of the words, plus the colour, and write something between 300 – 1000 words. You’ll find the prompts and the rules, for stories due on May 23rd, beneath the cut. One of them very much says ‘Napoleon’ to me.

Today is also the posting day from last week’s prompts. If you want to join in with today’s postings, you’ll find those prompts right here.

Remember, Section VII is a Gen site, but stories which are Het, Long-term Romance or AU can be posted in the Map Room. You’ll find the link for it down the side there.

Have fun.

Author: mrua7

Title: Mea Culpa

Word count: Approximately 600

Illya stared out the window of their decrepit hut; the view hadn’t changed since the last dozen or so times he’d lookeed out at the jungle and probably wouldn't. He was filled with regret at the moment, remorseful that he hadn’t agreed to leave when Napoleon suggested they do so.

Short Affair 5/16
Prompt: Regret
Color: Yellow

Title: Regret, part IV
Author: Rose of Pollux
Word Count: ~800

(This is the conclusion of an early-days WIP here, here, and here; the first part is gen-mature for injuries, but the remaining parts are gen). This ties in to my Baron arc, which takes place early in the partnership, but the "Regret" series is technically separate from it.

Alexander Waverly carefully picked up the object which sat on the table in front of him. It was a yellow metal sphere, slightly smaller than a soccer ball. There seemed to be something which looked like a sort of lid, but there was no obvious way of opening it. Strangely, it seemed to be weighted so that the apparent opening always stayed facing up.
