Okay, I'm thinking that if Illya Kuryakin really does have a cat, considering how multi-lingual the man is, his feline friend is probably of a similar ilk.  You'll love this cat.

These are the prompts for the last Short Affair of August. A time when summer is coming to a close, and autumn starts to make its presence felt. (Although if you saw the driving rain and high winds we have today, you could believe it to be winter already).

You can write whatever you like within the parameters of the rules, but how about something about beginnings and/or endings. The prompts and the rues can be found below the cut.

There is still plenty of time to contribute to today’s posts from last week’s prompts. If you want to join in, you’ll find those prompts right here.

Remember, Section VII is a Gen site, but stories which are Het, Long-term Romance or AU can be posted in the Map Room. You’ll find the link for it down the side there.

Have fun.

It was late into the night that Illya Kuryakin puttered around in the labs down in the belly of UNCLE headquarters in New York City.

There were beakers and vials lined up along the workbench, each one containing a liquid in varying shades of blue. He had a pipette in his hand and from it he put a single drop of a clear liquid in each one.

Waiting for a reaction; he grabbed his clipboard and prepared to write down the results.

One by one each container of liquid turned yellow until only one was left unchanged.

“Finally,” he mumbled. He was happy with his success, but tired that it taken so long to happen.

Napoleon and Illya had completed their mission successfully and had flown back to New York last night.  They were to meet with Mr. Waverly for debriefing at 9:30 and they had decided to meet at HQ at 7:30 to have breakfast and finalize their written report.

Napoleon silently dropped down from the ledge onto the mossy cave floor, narrowly avoiding kicking Illya in the head.

“Good morning, Napoleon. Did you sleep well?”

“I have a crick in my neck that may never come out.” He rubbed at it irritably, grimacing at the pain. “What I wouldn't give for my nice soft bed right about now. Any sign of THRUSH?”

Illya looked up at him briefly. “Yes, they were here earlier for breakfast and we had a pleasant conversation. I decided not to wake you.”

For five days Napoleon and Illya had been avoiding each other.

At staff briefings they had seated themselves at opposite ends of the table, where they did not have to directly interact with one another. If one of them was in their office doing paperwork, the other always seemed to have plenty to do elsewhere. At first it was regarded as an amusing coincidence, but as the days wore on, it became clearer and clearer to everyone that their CEA and his partner had fallen out.

As he walked towards the typing pool, Napoleon could hear the women within. They were gossiping about a new member of the archiving team, who had transferred from London, and they weren’t being very nice.
