I have had this story buzzing around my head for a while. Now seemed the appropriate time to get it down and post it.

                                                    The End Of An Era

The telephone jangled loudly, and Cara rubbed her eyes blearily and gazed at the luminous clock face.
Five o’clock? Almost time to be getting up anyway. She rolled over and grabbed the phone.

“Hello…? Robert! Morning sweetheart. Is everything alright?”

She listened for a moment, and as her son talked on the other end, something vice-like clawed at her heart. Finally, her eyes damp, she nodded.

“I’m so sorry…thank you son, I appreciate you letting me know. I’ll tell dad. Yes, thank you. When?...I see…how are Jean and April bearing up? Tell them we’ll be with there as soon as we can…yes. I’d better wake dad straight away and let him know what’s happened. Thanks. I love you son. See you soon. ‘bye!”

This was a PicFic from 2013, but it seems a good choice today.

It's a sad day today as we continue to mourn the loss of our beloved icon and hero, Robert Vaughn.  Our fandom has suffered a terrible, yet in evitable blow.

Today however, we'll celebrate his life and his persona as Napoleon Solo...who'll live forever through fanfiction.

There's a tribute going on all day over in the [livejournal.com profile] mfu_canteen, so head over there to post your favorite photos of Robert, or anecdotes...whatever you want to do to honor him.

Today in Writer's and Reader's Choice, please post your favorite Solo-centric stories, or links to them as we honor Robert Francis Vaughn, through our fan fiction.

RIP

This was a recently written story, but it was a very different one for me. It's Zen-like in style and speaks to Napoleon Solo's soul. The ultimate goal of an UNCLE agent is to bring peace to the world, but perhaps to himself as well.

The story has a gentleness to it and I thought it appropriate to repost today.

Beep-beep, beep-beep. beep-beep...

The heart monitor was the only sound heard in the room as Solo slumped back in the arm chair.

Someone had taken pity on him and brought it in for him. Molded plastic chairs were in available for visitors in this small Kyoto hospital but they weren't very comfortable, especially for a visitor who wouldn't leave.

I've written many, many pages exploring Solo, but I think this is at his core. It seems that Napoleon has cracked the gender code (and Illya knows the secret). It was also probably true of the man who played him.

New York City. August, 1967.

Sigmund Freud was not the first man to ask what women want, and surely, he will not be the last. Indeed, men have been scratching their heads over that one since they began sharing their caves. It was doubtful then, that a problem of such immense magnitude would be solved in a single afternoon, despite the storehouse of accumulated worldly wisdom assembled around the barroom table that day.

My writing tends to lean towards Illya, which means I don't have much which is Napoleon-centric.

I've recc'ed 'Angels Never Cry' before, but I have no hesitation in doing so again. In it, Napoleon is unable to cope with a failed mission. It isn't very long, but I hope you enjoy it.
