So I'm reposting this story in honor of this anniversary.
THE GREAT ESCAPE
Napoleon and Illya were walking along Fifth Ave. in New York city. It was a brisk February day, just the beginning of the month. Most of the other people around them were going on about their business; keeping their heads down, holding their jackets closed and their scarves around their faces.
Suddenly there was an uproar and four young men, dressed in matching mod suits were running behind the two agents; pushing their way past them and one of them knocking Illya to the ground.

With Kuryakin in the driver’s seat and Solo in the passenger side of their black sedan, moving at a fair clip along the scenic road. They were at a higher elevation, and it seemed as if they were actually in the clouds.
They passed a white Volkswagon bus parked on the side of the road; leaning against it was a blonde wearing a cut off tee-shirt, very short shorts, and of all things...a straw hat. Not quite a sight one sees every day.
“Illya, pull over a minute, maybe she needs help,” Napoleon pointed back with his thumb.

Napoleon sometimes intimidates the Russian with his superior intellect. Illya often annoys his partner by being a typical blond.
INTROSPECTIVE
Illya Kuryakin frowned into his coffee, unsettled and dissatisfied, trying to work out why. He had just been cleared by psychiatric after yet another spell as a prisoner of THRUSH.
Ever since Illya was assigned to the New York office, he had been determined to remain loyal to his chosen path.

Napoleon Solo flirted and joked his way from the U.N.C.L.E. parking lot to his office; his journey taking three times longer than it should have. He even managed to arrange a date for that evening and another for later in the week. His good mood was entirely down to the success of the mission he had just returned from. Thanks to his talent and quick-thinking another Thrush menace had been thwarted. All Napoleon needed to do now was debrief with Mr Waverly, and file his report, and then the next two days were his. Firstly though, he wanted to touch base with his partner and invite him out for lunch.
