Short Affair PROMPTS for July 2nd

These prompts are for July 2nd!! How did we get halfway through the year so quickly? As the posting for these prompts falls 2 days before Independence Day, please feel free to give your story a July 4th theme.

Don't forget, you can now chose to use one of the prompt words, or to use both in your story (not forgetting the colour element), remembering to state which combination of prompts you are using.

The prompts and rules, for Short Affair stories due on July 2nd, can all be found down below the cut. For stories due today, simply follow this link for the prompts.

Remember, Section VII is a Gen site, but stories which are Het, Long-term Romance or AU can be posted in mfu_map_room.

Posting directly to Section VII is still fine but, if you wish, you can post your story elsewhere and provide a link. Please say where the link leads as a lot of people are unwilling to go to certain sites. Don't forget, Section VII and the Map Room are both available on Dreamwidth, for those of you who can figure it out (Just let us know if you posted there).

ABC Affair II. U – Utopia, Texas: a nice but nowhere place

Utopia, Texas.

Napoleon, happy as ever to let Illya do all the driving, lay back and enjoyed the Texas hill country they were passing through. “There’s no place like home, and I’ll be glad to get back,” he said, “but this is pretty nice. Takes your mind off things.”

It was the driving not the landscape that took Illya’s mind off his bruises. They were heading for San Antonio Airport to fly back to New York and he had decided to go across country. He looked around and agreed it was very attractive. 

They came to a very small town whose sign, painted on wire in a frame and standing in unkempt grass by the road, was both welcoming and slightly threatening – as if they expected people not to keep it nice. 

“Remember that weird place, Nowhere?” said Illya.

“How could I forget?”

“Well, here’s another. Why do they call real places by names that make them disappear?”

“Utopia means nice place – what are you talking about?”

“Not spelled like that, it doesn’t. Capital U-topia means ‘no place’. It needs an E in front of it to mean nice place.”

“You going to tell them, or shall I?”
