Another issue of Kuryakin Files is in the works.  This will be another digi-file publication, with a summer release pending adequate submissions.

Lisa Madden publishes Kuryakin Files, and you can contact her here:  lemadden52@gmail.com

Stories should be Gen, never before published.  Lisa does edit, so writers need to be open to that and possible suggestions for revision, if necessary.

A selection of color illustrations is also being sought.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3

Fracas

[FREY-kəs]Part of speech: noun

Origin: italian, early 18th century

  • A disorderly brawl
  • A loud, outraged discussion

Examples of Fracas in a sentence

  • Both teams were disqualified after the fracas on the court.
  • The town council meeting turned into a fracas over the new zoning proposal.

About Fracas

If you throw yourself into the fray, you’ll find yourself in a fracas. You pronounce the first syllable of fracas like the word fray, with a long “A.” If you’re in the U.S. you’ll pronounce the “S” on the end, but drop it off if you’re using the Queen’s English.

Did you Know?

Fracas comes from the French verb “fracasser,” which means to smash violently. But the French got it from the Italians — “fracassare.” You can use fracas to describe any kind of noisy, crazy fight — physical or verbal.

We've discussed dropping all of the challenges during the month of February, and there is merit to that idea.  The trouble is, a lot of people do well with a prompt, and having one as a starting point can be just what we need to jump start the inspiration.

I think we need our Monday Short Affair, it's the perfect little bite, sort of like an amuse bouche in the culinary world.

Amuse Bouche: An amuse-bouche or amuse-gueule is a single, bite-sized hors d'œuvre. Amuse-bouches are different from appetizers in that they are not ordered from a menu by patrons but are served free and according to the chef's selection alone.

Okay, that's it for the culinary references, but you get the idea.

I think we're all on board for a hiatus on PicFic, Song Story and even Once Upon A Time.  These are the biggies and require more time and energy.  I haven't been able to get these done, and I only work part time.  There's other stuff going on and writing gets sidelined.  So, those challenges will be off for the month.

Drabbles are easy, and the Little Drabble Do Ya only requires 100 words, so I'm leaving it in its regular Wednesday slot.

So, what do we write?

Anything your heart desires.  I'll probably drop in some prompts, impromptu challenge ideas and other little nudges to encourage writing.  We have our Gen site here on Section VII, but don't forget the Map Room or UNCLE du Jour for alternative takes on MFU.

Yes, I'm back - anyone miss me? I unexpectedly found my desire to write this afternoon. Believe me, I hadn't seen it in a long time, so I figured I'd come back to the community and see if there were any challenges that could help me remember how words work - only to discover that we're taking a break from challenges. This is my typical timing. Anyway, here's a story.

Prompt - Protest/Red
Words - 469
Title - Room Service
