A Double Drabble (my first); RUNNING;

                                                                                                 RUNNING!

In the gathering darkness, Illya crashed through the undergrowth, leaping over logs, dodging branches and feeling every single hailstone as though it were a single missile aimed just at him alone. He paused for breath, panting, and glanced around, but all he could see were the woodlands he had run through. He shook his head, his lungs still screaming for more air as he panted. He hadn’t run this far or this fast in a long time…and still he suspected that it wouldn’t be enough.

Napoleon was going to pay big time for this. He had another eight miles or so to run yet and if he was even ten seconds longer than the target time he had been given, he had been promised a month on Survival Island in punishment. This was Napoleon’s doing. Napoleon whom had got himself distracted with some female once too often. Waverly had angrily responded by sending them both down for retesting. If Napoleon’s foolishness led to Illya being sent back to Cutter for a month, then his life would not be worth living. Illya would make sure of that. He smiled grimly to himself, took a deep, slightly shaky breath, and started to run again.

What a great Drabble. Very compelling as it is, and an intriguing scenario for future expansion. I think mrua7's suggestion of Drabbles was spot on. Looking forward to the next piece, whatever the length. :)

Thank you. This is the first time I've tried writing anything nearly so short...I missed the double drabble by one word I think, an amazing achievement for me...long-winded is my middle name I think, ;-)

Incredibly, this one almost wrote itself. I started with a blank screen and a blank mind, and it just happened. I can see something ahead for it...it is begging for an expansion, but when it'll happen I'm not sure. With my muse playing silly games right now, who knows. I have visions of an angry Illya returning from a month with Cutter to find his partner expecting to be friends again....

Thank you so much! My problem with drabbles is my ultra wordiness! I guess I need the practice in being concise! I will try and come up with more. This one was definitely easier to write than I had ever expected...(and I didn't have to chop out anything either, amazingly!) Thanks for commenting.

Thank you my friend! I'm not sure I'm a natural because I am usually too wordy, but it was great fun to do. I am eager to see if I can write another one! Thanks for reading and for commenting! I'll think about expanding when my muse stops playing silly games!
